Olympus Work Space new features

I see the software has two new features....Live Composite and Dark Composite.  Does this mean I can do Live Composite now even with my E-PL6 (which doesn't have this feature built in)?  And what is Dark Composite....will it help me take long exposures without star trails (maybe good for meteor showers?)

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

I think it works similarly, like a lighten blend mode in Photoshop. It looks at pixels and only shows the lightest (or darkest for darken).

That feature came with V1.1, it's now at V1.3.

Make a burst of images and try it. Works with Olympus raw files, or with any brand camera jpegs

And what is Dark Composite....will it help me take long exposures without star trails (maybe good for meteor showers?)

Again take a burst or sequence and combine them in the Composite feature to see what happens.

Select the bunch of thumbnails then use the menu.....

The choices for Lighten Composite item when it opens are Lighten1, Lighten2 and Darken.

I am using the Olympus Workspace with my Olympus cameras - I love the colors! - Just as Olympus wanted it!

But there are 2 things I HATE - It is deadly slow...

Sharpness and small details - are not good as other programs like Capture One and Lightroom...

Any comments?

It's reasonable on my current model i7 Lenovo notebook but slower on my older notebooks.

Agree. Workspace does some unrequested noise filtering and some sharpening even when asked not to. It is merely a copy with what the camera does with some freedoms to deviate.

Better details with DxO Photolab3 Elite and Prime noise reduction but the default conversion is a little harsh and contrasty so needs to be modified and a new custom profile made to use as default.

Probably a nicer result from Affinity Photo with careful tuning but not quite the same degree of fine detail as DxO.

So if you want a direct copy of what the camera does then use Workspace, if you want something different and better then DxO, Capture One, Affinity, Silkypix etc do a nicer job. Lightroom never worked for me in trials in the past, always got better results from my use of Silkypix at the time.

My exposure to Capture One is via the free Express version for Sony that I use occasionally with my RX100M6. I see it as an awkward converter to use, DxO and Affinity are way more straight forward with less of a learning curve. Silkypix is somewhere in between for learning.

DXO PL 2 or 3 with colour rendering set to Neutral tonality v2 for backlit or low light images

or

C1 for the rest

works very well if combined with Topaz Denoise AI

c1 is faster than DXO
