TG-6 Goes Surfing
7

I've been taking photos of my daughter when we go surfing with a DJI Osmo Action but decided to take it up a notch and get a TG-6. We went out for dawn patrol couple times last week and my friend joined. Liking this camera a lot. Need to figure out a way to attach it to me so that I don't have to hold it while surfing or paddling.

(face blurred for privacy)

This tilt shift effect was a happy accident caused by water sheeting off the lens.

Hi,

Sorry for asking but are you, as a photographer and with such a list of professional gear in your gear list, that satisfied of these photos ?

IMHO the TG-6 can do better.

One can find some beautiful samples here on DPR taken with the TG-cameras.

I sincerely hope you can improve using this camera and enjoy it , I'm sure you can.

Greetings,

eMBie

I have plans to do the same and ordered a waterproof waist pack from B&H (not to protect the camera, but for the durability of the pack/zipper, etc. in salt water). I understand the comment Re quality, but these are not bad photos, and sometimes the convenience, fun, and immediacy of the situation trumps actual pixels.

One of my favorites from yesterday.

The close action shot on the wave is great.  I also like using the lens flare that's common to all tough cameras for atmospheric scene shots.

Very nice shots!

Regarding how to hold the camera, I just bought one of these for holding a camera like the TG6 to record videos of my RC trucks while I drive them:

I haven't used it yet, as I don't have a camera small enough with adequate quality; it might be a good reason to pick up an inexpensive point & shoot camera...

However, there are a lot of good reviews and the construction seems very sturdy; thick plastic, good finish on the metal parts, and rubberized grip areas on the inside of the elastic head bands.

Have you ever tried getting action shots while in the water?

Yes, the camera is capable of pictures that are technically better, in some cases. But the ones that aren't composed perfectly are candid action shots. Not only is the subject moving, but the photographer was also moving in a way that is hard to predict. (due to getting hit by waves while shooting)

I don't like the blurred face in the 4th shot, did you do that on purpose to preserve anonymity? I don't think it is necessary, unless you are a criminal hiding from the law, hehehe.

The first and third shots are especially good. I would be proud to have taken them.

These photos are amazing! Great job. I also use my TG-6 for many activities including surfing, scuba diving, etc. I wear it attached to a sturdy lanyard (one solid lanyard) around my neck. I find this works awesome as it keeps my hands free. I just have to reach down and pick it up. Hope that helps.

If you look below the image he says face blurred for privacy.

All together a very set of images.

this one is my favorite.

I wondered about a 'less bright' version

I think your original is best, not only a better 'mood', but it creates great sense of distance that the alternate loses.

Oh don't be an elitist.  He's using a point and shoot and having fun.  Not everything has to be "pro quality)."

Peace.
