Faulty NX2000 not recognizing lenses?
Aug 12, 2020
I purchased a NX2000 from eBay. I could not get it to stay on with a standard 20-50 kit lens attached. I fully charged the camera and tried again. Still the same problem.
I removed the battery and memory card and let the camera sit for 15 minutes, then tried again. No success.
I did the same thing but tried starting the camera without the lens. The camera powered up without issue. I updated the firmware from 1.10 to 1.18 for the camera via the memory card since iLauncher didn't seem to do anything on my Mac. But as soon as I attached the lens the camera would go dead again anyway.
I suspected that maybe the lens was bad, so I tried using a lens adapter. The camera seemed to recognize that there was an adapter, then abruptly powered down. I couldn't restart it till I removed the battery, but this time I left the memory card in, and just held down the power button for 15 seconds. That kicked the camera back to life once again.
The camera has no problems when there is no lens attached. But just as soon as I attach one, whether while the camera is off or on, the screen goes dark, the indicator light turns red for a few seconds, then the camera goes dead. Then I repeat the removal of the battery, etc.
Since this has happened with an OEM lens and a generic adapter, I am assuming this is something to do with the camera itself?
I've checked the connections on the camera and lens. Both are immaculate. Of course there are no connectors for the adapter to worry about.
Ruling that out, the only thing I can think of is that maybe the battery is worn out? It took about three to four hours to charge. The battery looks like it might be the original that shipped with the camera.
I don't want to spend more cash on a replacement battery if there is something else I'm overlooking.
I couldn't find anything via Google that seemed quite like this issue, so I'm hoping someone here might have some answers or suggestions.
Thanks!
