Most lightweight model for clean HDMI w/o overheating problem?

Like so many others, the pandemic has become an unexpected impetus for an upgrade from my current GX7.

I'm looking for a new body that's lightweight - hopefully a rangefinder style, not a DSLR style - but at the same time will not present an sensor overheating issue that I've read will arise with some models.

What do people recommend?

My of my glasses are from Panasonic, which means I'll be better off buying another Panasonic for IS. But it's not a deal-breaker, and an Olympus with the qualities I look for - clean HDMI without sensor overheating - will do too.

RF form factor? GX or the GF (including the GX850 in some region).

Light weight: GF9 or GF10, followed by GX85, then GX95 and the heaviest and largest is the GX8.

Clean HDMI Output: GX85, GX95, GX8.

Overheating: It seems no Panny camera will overheat easily. Mostly 4K video could be an issue for GF so it has limited recording time. Quite sure 1080 won;t over heat Panny models. Not heard any 4K overheating issue on other higher spec Pannys.

GF overheats in 4K. That's why they have the 5 minute 4K limit. Also according to another thread they don't output clean HDMI for recording (only for playback).

Someone got burned when they bought the GX800 (same as GF9/GX850) thinking it it can output clean HDMI for recording and found it only works on playback:

I know for sure GX85 doesn't overheat in 4K and it only has 1.1x 4K crop. GX9 and GX8 has that 1.25x crop in 4K.

Re: Most lightweight model for clean HDMI w/o overheating problem?

It looks like it's hard to meet all the criteria that I have in mind for a new body that can second as a webcam.

One criterion is a articulating LCD screen. Without one, it will be cumbersome to set up using the touch screen in the back of the camera and come back to my seat in front of the camera.

GX8 has an articulating LCD screen, and so does OM-D EM-5. If I have to get an outdated GX8 for an articulating screen, I might as well look into OM-D EM-5 Mk ii to save money.

Any thoughts?

You say u want video but limiting yourself to a rangefinder body is the counter-productive. The GX series are the Panasonic RF styled bodies but they're also more photo-centric rather than video-centric so you're going to miss out on useful video features like some certain video profiles , better IS , better EVF's (except the GX8), better ergonomics,  side mounted SD cards and full size audio-in jacks.

The G80 has all those features over any GX camera (except the GX8 EVF) and its not much bigger than GX80 / GX7 II.

Are you planning on buying a capture card? IF not then the only Panasonic cameras that can act as a webcam using their software solutions are the GH5 and G9.

If RF form factor is no longer on your must need list, might also consider the G85.

Fully articulated LCD

Clean HDMI output

Dirt cheap Cost: I bought a new one for US$420 only from gray market last June...

Size: has similar footprint as GX8:

DUAL IS 2: around 5 stops : http://www.photobyrichard.com/reviewbyrichard/panasonic-lumix-g85g80-review/ )

IBIS: for both still and video (GX8 DUAL IS does not available on video).

You might also have a look on the vlogging centric G100 (http://www.photobyrichard.com/reviewbyrichard/panasonic-lumix-g100-g100-review/ ). But it has limited 4K recording time (similar to the capacity as a GF10 with latest built-in mic and audio of Panny), no IBIS (Lens OIS relied)...

Re: Most lightweight model for clean HDMI w/o overheating problem?

The GX8 is a great camera, and my GX7 doesn't get used very often anymore.  The GX8 will shoot 4K without any 10 or 30-minute time limit, and I've never noticed it overheating.  I think the video quality is pretty good, but I'm no video expert.

A Panasonic body will provide DFD AF with your Pana lenses.  I did experience some shutter shock with the GX8 and one lens, the 14-140 f/3.5-5.6, but just use e-shutter if you are in that 1/30 to 1/250 range (that might be overstated a bit), and a firmware update for the GX8 allows you to choose an "auto" setting for shutter type, so the camera switches to e-shutter automatically if the lens you are using and your shutter speed might result in SS.

The EVF on the GX8 is terrific, much better than on the GX7, and the 20MP sensor is also an improvement.  It has 4-axis IBIS, not quite up to the later 5-axis system on newer Pana models, but it does do Dual IS (v.1, not 2).

Yes, an Elgato.
