Best gimbal for A7iii + 16-35GM ?

Hello.

I’ve been reading lots of reviews on gimbals, but it seems like each one has some drawbacks when paired with an A7iii.

Is there any kind of consensus as to what is the best gimbal for the A7iii?

(I generally shoot with my 16-35GM, so the total load is probably 3 lbs.)

Thanks,

Allan

Re: Best gimbal for A7iii + 16-35GM ?

I use the Zhiyun Crane 2 with my A7III with FE 28-70 2.8 GM which is around the same weight / dims as the FE16-35 2.8 GM, which I also hired to use on a video shoot. Once balanced it handled the weight with ease.

The camera rear monitor does come a little close to the rear of the gimbal though and I use an additional mounting block to give it even more clearance - but I also use an external monitor as well.

There's a few other gimbals around and I don't know enough to say if they are better or worse though. The one potential downside on my rig is the Zhiyun's in built follow focus wheel operation does not support Sony - but I mainly shoot MF anyway.

If follow focus is key to you is key then best hone in on which ones do or don't support that.

That's good info about the follow focus wheel not being supported, thanks.

And unfortunately, with the DJI Ronin S, when using the USB control cable to enable follow focus, the Sony's internal stabilizer is turned off. (I don't know if that is specific to this Ronin use case, or occurs whenever the control cable is used.)

If using a gimbal though there's maybe a case for turning internal stabilisation off anyway - as you would turn it off when the camera is on a tripod as the stabilisation starts to work against things when the camera is already being held steady. I've not done enough testing though with stabilise on and off when using the gimbal so thats worth looking in to further, but personally I always have stabilisation off when using my gimbal.
