I have a 35-70mm lens- would an 85mm or 135mm (f2.8) be a better compliment?

I was debating between posting on the Beginners thread, but thought this would also be an appropriate forum to ask.

I'm mostly doing portrait/editorial based photography at the moment, and I am working with a Fuji Xh1. In the near future I plan on doing some video work as well.

The standard 16-55mm has served me well but I got into some vintage zeiss Contax Lenses- the recent addition being the 35-70mm zoom lens. For those that have worked with 85 and 135 mm focal lengths, which one did you end up using more?

The compression in the 135 seems nice but I feel like it will probably become harder to communicate with my subjects at that distance. Keep in mind I haven't worked with focal lengths larger than my 55mm, so I don't have a particular preference yet.

Thanks!

Well, the 85 will really be a 128mm equivalent.  The 135 would be close to 200mm.

I don't know what you like, but 128mm is a strange focal length.  Maybe slightly too long for portrait work, and maybe not long enough for whatever.  Just my opinion, but I don't see the point in a 128mm prime.

I'm curious as to why you have two zooms that are (relatively speaking) not worlds apart in range.

Good luck.

Actually, the 85mm on a crop would make a nice portrait lens.

It seems to me that 85mm is too close to the 70mm framing.  For me, 85mm would be a waste of money.
