Photos at Shuttleworth Drive-In Airshow
13

I haven't posted for a year. I'll explain in a later thread.

I visited the world's first Drive-In Airshow at the Shuttleworth Collection in July.
A brilliant idea for these dreadful circumstances; superbly executed.

I've already tweeted the photos I'm showing here.
I tweet at least 4 of my photos every day: https://twitter.com/BarryCPearson
This the the Twitter thread

There are about 70 photos in this thread.
The first below was taken with my "carry everywhere" camera: a Ricoh GRIII.
All the rest were taken with a K1II or a K3, and Pentax 70-200mm or 150-450mm lenses.
All were processed in (only) Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.

The cars were all "socially distanced"!

For those in the UK this was a welcome start to the airshow.

More photos of the Avro Tutor later.

More photos of these pre-WWII racers later.

An interesting Pitts Special

I like to include some context, for example showing some background to the aircraft.
Also, I like to include the pilot's face where possible.

Nearly all the aircraft of the Shuttleworth Collection are originals.
These are specially-commissioned replicas.

First: a Tiger Moth. This particular aircraft has been based at a single location (this one) for longer than every other aircraft ever!

Second: Avro Tutor.

These photos are the last I intend to show in this thread!

Thanks for the pics Barry, looks like a great day out and you got some great shots.

Personally it would be worth going just to see the DH Comet in the air.

Great pictures and truly a collection of airplanes you wont get to see anywhere else! Thank you for sharing. I always wondered why you haven't posted it for a while.

Nice to hear from you, and to see you continue to follow your passion.

I didn't browse yet through all your images, but what I've seen - they're very nice, as usual.

Quite enjoyable . like them all . A couple of shots with motion blur would have added a little more value !

Good to see you back, and good work as ever.

Hard to believe they flew that 1938 glider!

If you mean "with propeller blur", I agree!

I was playing safe; for all I knew it might have been my only airshow in 2020.
And I was out of practice; this was my first action photography for perhaps 10 months.

(I rejected lots of other photographs because of camera-shake and bad panning!)

I'm glad you liked them in spite of that!

I did a nightshoot there in 2018. You may like the propeller-blur on these:

It was a fantastic day out!

I had thought there would be no useful airshows this year.
It was a race to buy tickets; there were lots of disappointed people.
And the Shuttleworth Collection managed to arrange some interesting skies!

Personally it would be worth going just to see the DH Comet in the air.

As I said on Twitter - it is arguably the most beautiful aircraft in the world!

This may make you jealous; I have a wood carving of it:
About 10 inches by 14.5 inches.
