Ayers Natural Bridge

Decided to check out a local point of interest today, Ayers Natural Bridge. So I took my 1200D, tripod, and my two lenses. Snapped in RAW and then just hit the auto button in Lightroom (never used it before, so start simple).

Gotta say, as a post-processing skeptic, I was impressed with just the Auto stuff. Going to be watching some tutorials folks told me about in the Landscapes forum and see what I can get going.

Hope you enjoy!

That looks neat.  I had never heard of it.  The internet says it's in Wyoming.  I had visited the somewhat nearby Black Hills many years ago, but not that interesting natural bridge.  There's just so much to see.  Thanks for sharing with us a little more of fascinating places to visit.

Nice shot. So, what's a post processing skeptic in the age of digital photography?

It just felt like cheating/fraud.  That you were taking an image and from that creating something that doesn't really exist.

That can happen, but it's not why most of us use photo editing software.  Cropping and light adjustment are probably the most common edits made.  You can really significantly improve the impact of your images with very basic adjustments ... without adding any elements that weren’t originally there.  At its most basic level, it can be used to just straighten the horizon on an image ... which corrects a major source of distraction.

Of course if you shoot RAW, you really must post process to bring in sharpness, color, and light.
Post processing is a tool which is available to all of us.  It let's us make our pictures better.  And yes, some people can really overdo it, and wind uo with horribly over processed images.  But ... that's up to the individual.  You should familiarize yourself with a simple editing program and just play with it.  You may be surprised at just how much better careful editing can make your work.
