Hi. I wonder if you could clarify something for me, please? I have the Pixco extension tube set and 60mm macro, works on full auto fine on the EM1-III. If I add the 1.4x TC that also works fine on auto.

I thought I would investigate using the 2x TC so tried it out in a shop, but it fails to connect electrically which means I cannot adjust either the focus or f stop on the 60mm macro, which is a big problem. I wondered if it was my camera, so we tried another shop copy of the camera; same issue. We then tried the 2x TC on a 40-150 Pro lens; full electric connectivity, so apparently not a problem with the 2x TC.

It just seems the 2x TC does not connect correctly with the Pixco tubes, even though the 1.4x TC connects fine.

Have you encountered this problem? If not, has anyone else? Not sure how to resolve this problem so I am holding off purchase of the rather expensive 2x TC.

Hi Julian,

That’s odd, I personally never had that problem. The only time I had connection problem with the extension tubes was with the 300mm F4. It’s a big and heavy lens and those tubes are quite flimsy, so sometimes while moving, the lens would lose connection with the body. I would have to twist the lens a little to have the connection back.

So maybe your problem might come from the fact that the connectors from the TC and the tubes aren’t aligning perfectly. You might want to twist a little the assembly and see if it gains connection. To be fair my guess would be that the problem comes from the tubes more than the TC. I mean, I would trust the build quality and accuracy of the TC more than the tubes!!

cheers,

Julien.

are they pixco that have the electronic connectors?  Can you post a picture?  They should work no issues.  It should go MC-20 connect to 10mm pixco to 16mm pixco to 60mm macro

Correct,

Julian, are they older pixco tubes that have been used lots?  They are very cheap, but better than FOTGA brand -

Kenko is better but will not work with the teleconverter as it will not connect

The traditional way of cleaning the contacts is with a pencil eraser.  I'd try that first particularly with the tubes which are likely to be a lessor quality gold.  Then ensure your firmware is up to date for the camera, lens and TC.

How do you hand hold your shots?

I'm blown away by how you handhold these shots at such high magnifications.  I would think that it is next to impossible to get the correct focus.  Are you also hand holding your flash or do you use a bracket?  I do have the Olympus 60 macro and a Godox flash with a small softbox.  Any hints would be appreciated.
