I shoot mainly stills but one thing that interested me in the R5 over my 5d4 was the 4k time lapse where the 5d only does 1080p plus all the other stills stuff like focus stacking and subject tracking

R5 also does 8K timelapse.

yes saw that not sure how my old Mac Pro will go with 8k video but will give it a try

If your computer cant handle the 8K then thats easy..

The R5 has 2 timelapse modes!

Mode 1: picture mode! R5 takes full 45 mega pixel res pictures and you put them together in post production to make a 8K timelapse movie

Mode 2: video mode! R5 is set in video mode and you choose 1080P, 4K or 8K timelapse movie and the camera will render it for you internally and you wont need to do any post processing, but you cant choose a timelapse timer lass than 2 seconds... the picture mode can do 1 second...

The final timelapse movie will be an ALL-I 29.97 frames 1080P, 4K or 8K movie!

I cant express how happy i am with this camera!!! Its a joy to use! And the eye detect is... Creepy! I swear they are using some sort of magic inside this damn thing! No way it can focus this fast!

we are spoilt for choice with the R5 with shooting option and great video stuff as well its going to be a great model to go with my 1dx3

A7Siii you mean
2

The A7Siii body was tested along side the R5 and was over 5 degrees hotter after use.

If is the perfect camera for you.  Nobody has said the R5 ever gets hot to the touch.

this is how it looks 1 week later. I think the big discrepancy we have is that you do not really find (or rarely find) photographers producing video content on youtube. It is mostly video oriented population. So it is understandable that videographers put video requirements at the sharp end and yet people complain that a 3,9$K camera overheat after 25 min of 8K RAW.

But it looks like most people will use it for photography anyways. Canon is releasing video oriented RF gear very soon for folks like Gerald Undone and Armando.

If you read internet and watch youtube, then you think that 99% of people use video only and for them R5 is a disaster because it overheat. When you talk to people, 99% of them to stills and overheating is not at all a problem. I think Canon knows their Target Audience for this camera.

When you read some comments it looks like 99% of the only take photos but this site is skewed towards older audience who isn't comfortable recording and editing video clips. I bet 99% of people do consume both still and video content, be it online or old fashioned TV. Now the votes show that for 30% people video is important feature they will use sooner or later and that's significant amount.

I bought Fujifilm X-T3 mainly because my previous Canon couldn't record 4K, and I didn't want second body for recording 4K, and also wanted to upgrade to 4K/60p. Despite using the camera mainly for photos, 90-99% of time, I want to record some events for documentary purposes which means having the highest quality posible for reasonable price.

Light Pilgrim I like your idea about the poll. But sampling here will not represent the true result of the population since it’s not random sampling and any sampling here will not be representative sampling because I think it’s a photography focused website, slightly skewed towards older folks. If you conduct the same poll at a video centric forum you’ll think no one shoots photos (which would be absurd to suggest that) [this is my opinion don’t take it as a fact]. It’s likely photography is more prevalent than videography but I wouldn’t consider videography non-existent.

YouTube videography reviewers like Gerald Undone’s (and Philip Bloom) wouldn’t be getting any views if videography was insignificant. Similarly people to to these reviewers to to learn to use ILCs for videos.
