Re: Is this Minolta lens fake?

The clue to the whole sagea is in this sentence :

So the lens in question was sold on eBay, few weeks ago and he (professional photographer) happy with it for 2 weeks, however, now he is saying it's a cheap copy.

Does that not suggest that he thought he had a good one till he discovered there was something wrong ?

Would it take two weeks to see you have a fake lens   ?

Why would he attempt to clean the lens if indeed he thought it was not the real thing ?

What is the point of cleaning a fake?

The fact that the lens was ruined in the cleaning attempt proves two things

1) the guy wanted to use the lens

2) the lens was indeed faulty

3) because of the above , he wasn't just pretending it was faulty to get a better price.

Am I still overthinking or just noticing details that some have missed ?

The problem with this thread is the words used and the context they are used in .

.

The title of the thread uses the word "fake" meaning counterfeit .

Fake has no other meaning .

The answer to that is , no , it's a genuine lens .

The word copy should have been used , but can also confuse .

I have several lenses that are the same version .

Therefore I have "several copies" of the same lens . All genuine .

Copy can also mean counterfeit , but the context of the OP would make it clear which meaning is intended .

It was certainly cleared up in the first few replies several months ago , and the seller has since resold the lens stating current condition and no longer cares !

This is turning into a long winded debate on the use of two words !

BTW , about the use of copy in the sense of another one of the same, one can also legitimately use the expression "cheap copy" in a situation like this:

A bookstore has a pile of The Standard British Birds book  ( including the gannet)

It just happens that one copy was damaged and the cover is ruined, so it is at half price.

I buy it so that I can come here and tell everyone I bought a cheap copy that it isn't a copy but an original, however it is cheap.
