Who purchased the EOS R5 body alone vs Body + 24-105 F4 Kit?

So I found out today that I will not receive one of the first shipments for the EOS R5.  That got me wondering about the number of people who might have purchased the same kit I purchased and whether or not that matters to the seller when compiling a list of orders.  More specifically, are we all in the same queue regardless of what we ordered (body only vs body + kit lens) or is there a separate queue for each?  When I purchased my X-T4, I thought I read somewhere that the body only orders were filled first with the body + kit lens orders shipped later.  Is that the same here for Canon?

In any case, the poll simply asks what you ordered but I'd love to get some insights into the questions above.  TIA.

My retailer said which one you order will put you on a different list.

i can’t imagine there’s many people on the kit lens list. Who pays $1100 for that lens?

Thanks for the reply. I'm new to Canon so need to start some where. I suspect I could have bought used but I've have a history with used products that nudged me towards getting everything new. Peace of mind is what I'm after plus I saved over $400 in taxes with B&H so...

Edit: BTW, I'm referring to the F4 constant and not the F4-7.1

Since I am coming back to Canon, I got the kit and the RF 35 1.8 to start.  I will likely sell the kit lens in the future when Sigma or Tamron makes a RF 24-70 2.8.  The Canon RF 24-70 2.8 is just too big, heavy, and expensive for my needs.

Someone who is really impatient?

I own and like that lens, but I got it on a refurb deal for about $700.

There would have to be two separate lists because Canon packages these as two separate items: One is a box with the camera only. The other is a box with both the camera and the lens in it. Generally speaking they are not going to send you the camera in one box and then go to their lens inventory and pull out a different box with the lens only.

So, which list gets shipped first depends on what the retailer ordered/received. If they got a lot of kit boxes and very few camera-only boxes, then the kit people will get their merchandise first. Or, visa versa.

For a look at the box that contains both the camera and the lens in one kit see:

Except I will need to use the 24-105 until there are third party options, which probably will not be until next year.

Awesome that they are in the same box -- that's what I was hoping to hear.  Based on what I'm hearing, perhaps the "R5 + Kit" waiting list is not that long after all.  Thanks.

When I found out there was not a cost savings in buying the kit, I bought the 24-105 f4 on 7/8 and the R5 body on 7/9.  I wasn't sure I would like the 24-105 over the 24-70 f2.8, so I didn't want to get into an issue having to return the entire kit just to swap out the lens.  I have always used the 2.8's, but wanted something with a bit more reach and a little lighter.  The RF 24-105 f4 + RF 100-500 f4.5-7.1 + 1.4x TC covers 24mm - 700mm with 2 lenses and a TC.  I wish the 100-500 was f6.3, but you can't have everything and noise performance of the R5/R6 looks good.

I also think the RF 24-105 f4 will be better with the 8 stops of IS versus using it on the original R.

But you could just buy the body-only camera, and then buy the 24-105 from literally anywhere else and save 100s. You said that the 24-70 is too expensive for your needs, but you're throwing $400 in the trash for a bundled 24-105

Not sure I would say its throwing $400 in the trash for a bundled 24-105.  This type of lens goes for $1,100 new (Sony's version is also the same price) and some people just like new products.  The same can be said for cars.  You can buy a 2020 Mustang new for full MSRP or you can buy a 2019 Mustang used and save a few dollars.  I generally put a price on peace of mind and look for the lowest risk opportunities for certain scenarios.  In some cases, used is perfect and in other cases, used might not be good enough.  I guess it varies person to person.

Because this is a kit lens, it is the most resold and value-volatile lens in the RF lineup. The EF version was the same way- you could get one for half off at times on ebay, because retailers break up the kits and sell the lens for cheap. Right now, you can get this lens for 700 used or 800 new on ebay. Or you can get it from a reputable dealer with a full canon warranty for 900 on Canon price watch. Or you can wait until thousands go on sale when everyone gets their R5 kits.

It's totally up to you. But yeah I think paying full price for this lens is wasteful.

There's no R5 + that lens as a kit sold where I live as far as I can see. Not even in Canons local official online shop.

I have purchased several L lenses there as well as my RP and RF 24-105mm f/4.  Everything I bought from them looked brand new.

Two things.

(1) I like new equipment (I realize there are good arguments on both sides of this position)

(2) My birthday is in July and I got to use the 10% BB birthday coupon for the R5 kit ($500 off), so not throwing the full $400 "in the trash."
