D7i Not Such A Good Idea

It looks like such a great bridge camera, all shiny and in near mint condition.

I have only been able to take 19 photos. "Cannot Read Card". "Unable To Display". Garbled screen sometimes. Locking up. Only getting a click sound when powering up. Batteries and camera body getting warm. Today I measured the temperature of the CF card at 103.3 degrees!!

Back to some research. Bad Sony sensor, probably like many other cameras back in those days with faulty Sony sensors, including my Canon A95. I'm guessing my camera didn't get the replacement sensor. Maybe if I shipped it to Sony with a note saying they forgot one. Yeah, I don't think so either. Overheating issues, sometimes very hot. I read one post that said the update 1.11 "might" cure some of this. IF I can find 1.11u, that is. All of this is just too bad because it is a very nice and ergonomic camera to use.

So, with the overheating issues where I have to just turn the camera off, take out the batteries and wait for it to cool, I have decided to give this camera another spin in the late fall, winter and early spring months, when the temps are much cooler. Maybe even alternating CF cards and batteries.

Too bad it's acting up .

I thought the bad Sony sensors were just in the Dimage 7Hi , DiMage A1 , teh Dynax 7d & 5d and one of the DiMage s*** models ?

I did have a DiMage 7 or 7i I lent to a friend which after a while it developed a fault where it drained the batteries quickly and they got warm .

I cant remember why .

Didn't bother fixing it , I just used to lens off it to repair another one , and lent him that one instead .

FWIW, Imaging Resource listed eight DiMAGE models included in the CCD advisory:

When my A1 went wonky in Oct. 2007, I brought it to Sony in Montreal.
I know the date because the tech left test pics of his workbench on the memory card.
They replaced the sensor, and it's still working fine.

Examples

This is what a bad Sony sensor looks like. This is a Canon A95 from around the same time as the S414.....

I bet there were a lot of people fired at Sony for this lawsuit mess. That was a huge number of sensors.
