Anyone else find the tg6 images are really soft with aperture wide open?

I couldn't figure out why my images were so soft out of this camera. It wasn't until I tried changing the aperture to one step up from wide open that the images became nice and sharp. Has anyone else noticed this with their tg6? I was really shocked at how soft they were actually when shooting in f2 or any wide open setting along the zoom range. Wondering if I have a lemon here or if that's just the way it is.

No...in fact I actually prefer the aperature to be wide open even for macro as it makes the images seem more vibrant.

I wonder if it was something else...can you post an example of some of these open aperture images that were soft?

This is zoomed all the way in 18,mm and f4.9

same shot as above, zoomed to 18mm but with aperture priority set to one up from 4.9 to 6.3

Actually after more testing, when not zoomed in at all, it's not as bad but when you start zooming, even 2x, it gets soft wide open.

That is very interesting...I'll have to do some tests on my end.   I have observed softness at max zoom...but I never thought to correlate it with the aperture.

Yeah, it seems when I zoom, especially to max and have the aperture wide open, it gets quite soft. I was playing with it more last night and it was the same. I quick change in A mode and it's good. I know I've run into lenses when I had a Nikon that were kind of soft wide open (even on non-zoom) so it might just be a thing that happens with these optics.

I am curious what you find though if you are able to test.
