HDMI color issues when Lumix G7 is in 4K?

Hey everyone, I'm having discoloration issues and I'm not sure if it's my iMac or what. I'm using a brand new Lumix G7 to record and livestream via HDMI in OBS. But anytime I switch to 4K, it turns into this ugly purple/green color. Is the camera defective? It only happens in HDMI with 4K. When I'm just recording regular without HDMI in 4K, the color is accurate and fine. I tried using a new HDMI cable, same results. I'm on a late 2013 iMac, NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB.

The only other thing I can think might be the issue is due to the higher frame resolution or the mbps. Thanks in advance for any advice.

In other modes (AVCHD, FHD-1920x1080), the color is accurate:

I can't help but...

..I think it may help others to know if regular 4K recordings (to memory card) look good, and what streamed HDMI output looks like on another device such as a TV set.

Thanks for the response Daniel! As mentioned in the main post, the regular 4K recordings look good (camera and memory card). I haven't been able to test it on a TV unfortunately, since I don't currently own one.

What are you using to input into your computer? Does your capture card say explicitly that it supports 4K (and what frame rates and subsampling, I believe G7 outputs 8-bit 4:2:2 over HDMI, although it only records 8-bit 4:2:0). Also check your microhdmi adapter and cable, 4K HDMI can be very fiddly (I tried on my GX85 on my TV and connection can drop easily on a loose connection). You need at minimum something compatible with "High Speed HDMI".

As others mentioned, the easier test would be to try on a 4K TV or monitor just to make sure it's not your capture card or OBS set up.

I would also check if you have any settings set for whichever mode you switch into for the 4K (like Cinelike-D for example).

Hi Jake, thank you for this. The capture card I have is UNISHEEN USB 3.1 Game Capture HDMI Video Adapter Card, the most affordable one I could find. It supports 4K, but no it doesn't clarify the HDMI Input Format detailing the colorspace.

My HDMI cable is indeed High Speed (both of the ones I tried, and they are brand new). I also just checked all the different modes (Cinelike, Natural, etc) and it has the same weird color scheme in all of them, just with diff styles/contrasts of course. Since I dont have the access to a TV for now, I guess the only thing I can narrow it down to is the capture card or my OBS settings. Something tells me it might be the capture card.

Did you see the user reviews? Some people report the same problem that you raised here:

Oh wow thank you! I didn't. I originally bought it awhile ago for my GH2 (before I bought the G7) which doesn't go up to 4K. I figured it would work seamlessly when I switched to the G7.

Returning it and purchased the Magwell USB Capture HDMI Plus. The overview seems to be spot on. Fingers crossed, thanks again!

Beat me to it. I also searched the reviews before seeing your comment and immediately saw others mentioning the exact same problems. So definitely the capture card and nothing to do with the camera.
