12-24mm underrated (by me)

I've had the 12-24mm for a while now and haven't really used it much. I've not done much in the way of landscape photography - for the past few years I've mainly been taking photos and videos of my family.

Today I took the NX500 and 12-24mm lens out on a family day trip and I was pleasantly surprised by the results. The focal length is well suited for taking photos and videos at the playground.

I thought this lens would be useless for video but I was proven wrong. The autofocus system is quick and silent and the lack of OIS wasn't much of an issue - perhaps because the lens is largeish it makes the camera easier to hold steadily.

So, overall a good experience with the 12-24mm and I didn't shoot any landscapes!

The NX lives on! At least in my house..

I am not using it much lately, as my mobile phone has a very good ultra wide 12mm, so I put other lenses on my NX cameras for family photos and videos.

This is a great lens for the price, ultra sharp even from wide open, amazing for landscapes, very very light and on the small-ish side for such a lens. Certainly a must have for the system.

The AF is super fast (something to be expected for such an Ultra Wide Zoom lens), and has always produce nice still and moving images for me, even in pro environment.

Things I do not like:

Not very well build, seems like the most fragile lens on the system. I have mine for many years now, had some rough times, but is stil performing as expected.

We will see on that, it seems like a very cheap plastic lens, but it doesn't perform like one.

I may have a faulty unit (I doubt that), but the manual focus is terrible for video, I use it mostly on fixed frames on a tripod (sticked at 5.6f). Also it doesn't have IS, which is not great for video use, but as you have mentioned, is not a deal breaker, but the manual sense of the ring is not good at all..

Maybe for my next set of family photos I will take this one with me (too much 18-200 lately, and I didn't like the results).
