Using an M100 as a webcam

Does anyone have an EOS M100 that they are using as a webcam for  Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime? The new Canon utility does not support the M100. I have looked everywhere for software solutions (on a Mac) and the only one that I found is made by Cascable. First I could not get it to recognize the camera. Then, after tweaking it, I got the camera recognized but there was no picture. Then, after disconnecting, I can not get it to reconnect.

Looking for something software related. I'd prefer not to buy more dongles or cables.

Thanks for your time.

Re: Using an M100 as a webcam

I have previously setup an M3 as a webcam but after an April 2020 zoom update the workaround no longer functions. It may still work on Skype and Facetime.

You need 2 pieces of software and the correct cable.

  1. Install Camera Live.
  2. Open the 'camera live' folder, it should automatically put the 'camera live' icon on the desktop.
  3. Open the camera live program. It is just a really simple box. You don't need to do anything.
  4. Now connect the camera to the laptop and turn it on. It should appear automatically in the 'camera live folder',. You don't need to click anything. This just confirms that it is connected and functioning
  5. Next, install the 'CamTwist' software. Open the main file. Then in the folder right click (2-finger click) the 'camtwist.pkg' file. Then select 'open with' and 'installer (default)'. You will see a warning, don't worry its ok. Click open. Proceed with installation.
  6. Open the CamTwist software and follow my instructions in the picture below
  7. Note, if 'CamTwist' opens with a window called 'cam twist studio' you can just close it. If you want to see a preview of what it looks like, when in camtwist, click on 'View' in the top bar and then 'preview'. It just gives a small preview window to help line things up. I think its better to just use Zoom to preview.
  8. You will need to change the setting in Camtwist, particularly the selected maximum resolution.

I'd be interested to know if this still works. I have an M6ii now so don't need this workaround.

I gave it a try. Immediately after showing up on Camera Live as connected, the Camera Live programs shuts down and then restarts. Once it restart, the same happens again. Tried an older version and this happens too. Looks like the M100 is not webcam material. Really sad as its a great size for it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Using an M100 as a webcam

According to the website, Camera Live does not support M100, but M200.

Just an update I've learn from another group, seems with a current script, M100 as webcam / streaming is now possible with no shut down limit.

Re: Using an M100 as a webcam

I tried it with my M100 and it seems to work, just make sure you use the 13 (alpha) build for the camera live because when I tried it with the other versions, build 11, etc... It didn't work. Hope this helps.

Here's a tutorial on YouTube about doing this - https://youtu.be/czZNuZz5FYc
