Some advice on Nikon 500 f4G vr

My lens has a few cracks in the rubber grip, item 3 in the lens manual diagram.  Thinking about filling them with some adhesive .  The lens is about 10.5 years old.  I would just like to stop them getting bigger.   I can no longer by parts from Nikon India and have found nothing on-line.  Getting it to my Nikon Service Centre is also problematic.

Advice, ideas?  Many thanks

I guess this a rare occurrence or a non-issue.  Will experiment on some old , similar rubber.

Cheers

I think you may be able to buy replacement rubber for the focus ring.  I've had that lens before, and it's amazing.  I hope you post some images from it.

Many thanks.  It is not the focus ring but thr "Rubber Grip" ar the very front.  Focus rings are readily avaliable.

Yes, great lens but getting a bit heavy for me, 74 years .  I bought it new in 2009.

I have tons of images and during lockdown I have been shooting birds in, and around, my property with D500 and Z6.   Mostly from a balcony.  Nothing very exciting .

Have you tried contacting Fixation in London , I've had a few spares from them and found them very helpful  . If they cant supply it they might be able to give you some part numbers

Hope this helps

I would avoid going the adhesive route. If you are unable to find replacement rings, I would purchase a Lenscoat or use the reusable self-cling wraps that hunters use on their rifles (I've seen photographers use these wraps on their tripods as well).
