Reaching for the moon with NX Mini
4

Half moon

Taken using adapted Sigma 100-400mm @ 400mm and a tripod. Cropped in-camera.

Anyone else still using their Mini for photographing the moon?

You 'may' be the last, however, the quality and talent on display here will surely inspire other NX-mini owners :-). Thank you very much for sharing.

adapted Sigma 100-400mm

Could you please share with the forum the specific the Make and Model:
1. Sigma 100-400
2. Adapter

I'm very interested and imagine many will find this useful as well.

Certainly. I used the following:

  • Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary (Nikon mount)
  • Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter - Nikon F Mount G-Type D/SLR Lens to Samsung NX Mount Mirrorless Camera Body (NKG-NX-P)
  • Samsung NX-M Mount Adapter (ED-MA4NXM)

The Fotodiox adapter can only change aperture on lenses with mechanical aperture coupling. As the Sigma 100-400mm is an E-type lens (aperture is set electronically), I opted to simply use it wide open. To set aperture, lens can be attached to a supported Nikon body, then switch to Live View, with Aperture Priority.

Thank you, thoroughly understood.
I purchased the NX1, 16-50 OIS S, battery grip bundle in 2015 (on sale) while Samsung was showcasing their 300mm f/2.8 OIS S Prime at trade shows.
I only own Samsung bodies (NX500, NX1).

Have you (anyone) ever attached a high-quality super-telephoto Film Lens to an NX1 or NX500 Body; for example, a Canon nFD mount lens e.g. 300mm f/2.8 L or a Nikon high-quality equivalent. Plenty of Film Mount adapters to NX and as we know every simple 'to NX adapter is dumb' excluding Samsung's NX-M.

I haven't. The only FD lens I own is of "normal" focal length and it performs admirably on my Sony full-frame. The specific Canon lens you mentioned would likely produce very impressive results when paired with a Samsung body, but it's not at all lightweight.
