Some will complain the G9 is a big body, and it is, but most of the m43 size and weight savings come from the lenses (FF gap is narrowing though) but the G9 is still the outright best handling body I have ever used, better than the GH5 for sure, better than any Sony ever made (seriously their ergonomics suck), better than the Z6/7, or the Canon RF offerings.

Did you have a chance to compare the G9 with the Sony A77II? Just a question.

really ? did you mean the Sony A7 II mean or A7rII or something like that

the one you mention is a 5 year old camera with Sony dropping that line whether this is official or not ?

Well actually, I use a a7 II at work, and while I still consider it a good value for a FF camera, for me personally, the body, button locations and their menu system just isn’t for me.

They’re great cameras in their own right, but for me, the hard corners, short grip, and tiny oddly placed buttons just made me never get comfortable with it like I have my Nikons or now the G9

The A7Riii and A7iii are light years ahead of the A7ii, but clearly behind Panasonic in Ergos. If you want reliable AF, it’s a tough act to follow. The menu system is tolerable, and once setup, it rivals anything out there, but it does take a while to learn and needs improvement. As a meat and potatoes type camera, it certainly delivers where it matters.

Digging up a bit of an old thread. One week in since getting the G9 and I'm still amazed with it and the features it has.

Picked up a 35-100 f2.8 and a 100-300 this past weekend, and love the versatility the 35-100 offers. The animal AF has been superb, and the AFC has caught more shots then it's lost. To me at least, it seems a lot faster than my D7200.

Image quality has been pretty good. Slight loss when pixel peeping, but the overall images look not much different than what I've had out my D7200 thus far as well.

Overall, loving the G9 and its portability with the 35-100. As much as I love my D7200 and Tamron 70-200 G2, the G9 combo makes it so easy to just pick it up and go, without thinking about the size or weight on long journeys!

If you are pleased with the micro four thirds format, you will get get great results with this camera which is a Best Buy in my book/

It is as you say a tour de force of the best of what Lumix offers.  A great compromise camera for both stills and video and has a great hand feel, even without an add on battery grip.  I am learning stuff all the time about this fine machine.

Be bold.  Get it. Enjoy.  Take if from the gipper.

Great shots, I've not been so lucky. What sort of shutter speed do you find in necessary. I have found the Face/Body detect with C AF doesn't keep up with my grandson. Which A F set do you use? I used set1, so I'm thinking of trying some of the others. I got a few decent shots but too many focused on the background.

Thanks! I've found the shutter speed varies depending on the light. I think these were around 1/60 if not a bit faster. I have shot down to 1/4" and slower for stills, and the IBIS has worked wonders. ISO wise I've left it in auto, and it varies between 200-800 depending on the light.

AF wise, I've used primarily AF-C with the animal detect, or 225 point area. The animal tracking has so far been pretty spot on. I'd say the hit rate is probably 75%. Even with the 225 mode, its been pretty good, although I've adjusted the area size to be a bit smaller and try to keep my subject in that area to produce better results.

Idea.  Shoot video of charging- bull grandkids.  Try different AF choices and see.  Then pick frame that captures peak moment you seek.  Also get enough light in area or artificial light so aperture can be small enough for large depth of field.

See, the impossible only takes a little longer---as in the Marine Corps infantry...lol

The EXIF data shows 1/800, which would make sense given the subject movement.

My problem is because of this lockdown I have an acute shortage of moving subjects. I dont have a dog and the grand children are mostly staying away.So trial and error isn't possible, I've tried to talk my wife into zig zagging round the garden or even chasing a ball but she's not co operating. Lol.

If you have a car, then consider jumping in it and driving into the countryside away from other human beings. You will soon find many possible picture taking opportunities.
