Is there a way to take pictures without Provia?

Just new into fuji system. Now when I go into film simulation it's set to provia/standard. Is there a mode where you can capture without any film simulation?

There's a standard profile or shoot raw

I suppose that would be the "Standard" simulation.

So is provia the standard profile or is it something different?

You can select an alternate film simulation/profile, but without one the is no image. You will have a RAW file otherwise. The are lots of in-camera tweaks to tailor the built-in sims to your liking. Provia is the “standard” profile

While shooting in RAW the film sim doesn't matter and can be changed in post. Turn "live view" on, to get a closer representative of the RAW file on the LCD & histogram. The file will still be marked with whatever film sim you have selected when brought into the RAW editor, but it can be changed to another film sim or linear if a sim is not wanted. In my case, I set Capture One to import in linear by default.

Something different.  There are a few profiles that can be selected, "STD" or Standard is one of them.

Re: Is there a way to take pictures without Provia?

I just went to the Q menu on my X-E3.  Select "STD".

Since you are new, have some fun and take some different types of photos with the different film simulations.   I suggest you shoot RAW + JPEG, but for the moment use the RAW files as safety negatives.  I don't know what kind of system you are coming from, but Fuji film simulations are in a league of their own.  You may be pleasantly surprised with SOOC. Later on, you can learn how to use the brightness/shadow adjustments to refine the film simulations.

One thing I've learned as well as the film simulations look better with the appropriate white balance.  AWB is OK, but I think it struggles when there is a lot of blue skylight. That's when using the shade/skylight WB works better.  Of course, you can also use a target and set a custom white balance if you really want to get down in the weeds.

Have fun!  You're going to love the X-E3.

There is no such thing as a RAW conversion* that does not have opinions.

Whether it's Nikon's "Standard" or Canon's "Standard" or "Adobe Standard" - they all have opinions.

Fuji has just made theirs explicit with their naming.

* in camera JPG counts as a RAW conversion.

Hi, every camera has a profile to determine a JPEG image, even if they don't have different selections as many do. As many responders have said, if you want to change the profile shoot RAW and adjust in post. Standard/Provia is the baseline, from which other profiles are available or which in RAM and post you can adjust to taste.

Personally, I use Provia (I use RAW + JPEG Fine) most of the time and then if needed adjust in post. Hope that helps.

Provia is labelled “Provia/standard” in Lightroom. I think its standard.

Im new to Fuji too, but I LOVE classic chrome. I can not explain why. It’s not saturated or anything, just looks, so good to my eye. I cant it my finger on why I love it so much! It’s more natural than Provia I feel, but also has an artistic vibe.
