Help needed 3D printing a RingLight housing for AD200/PRO & 24-70 f2.8

I have a working prototype to use on a FlashPoint/Godox AD200/PRO!

I have made 4 complete plugin heads using a Canon ML-3 housing & flash tubes to mount on a AD200/PRO that is fully functional including 2 1/2 watt LED focusing lights!

The ML-3/200 as I call it works very well but is not large enough to use with 24-70mm or 70-200mm f2.8 as well as many others.

I am hopeful that I can find someone to help with this project.

I believe using a 3D printer to make a housing for just the flash tube will make a nice lite & portable flash head.

I believe it is possible to use a similar setup but requiring the use of an extension cable to use it with an AD400PRO! (YES IT IS A 400WS TUBE)

Here are some photos to show that I am not full of BS.

Here is the larger flash tube I plan to use. (YES IT IS A 400WS TUBE)

Here is the bench test firing using the same cable assembly using the AD200PRO!

View: original size

Hard to get proper timing so I just took the best looking video frame grab from my iPhone!

I will be happy to build several units in exchange for helping with the housings.

I just want to make several for me & my friends.

Thanks to all that can help!

hey, you might be able to help me. I want to cut the cable and spilt it so that only one cable and one ad200 is used. Though with two flash heads.. Save weight. I use for one flash under the camera and one on Hotshoe..... double flash set up........ with the trigger on the hotshoe too. Is it easy to do? Looks like you took the power from the bare bulb area.

First question are you going to shorten the cable length by 50% or more?

Second question do you want a modeling light?

Re: Help needed 3D printing a RingLight housing for AD200/PRO & 24-70 f2.8

WARNING !!!! FIRST NEVER WORK ON ANYTHING CONNECTED TO A AD200 or AD200 PRO EVEN IF YOU TURN OFF THE FLASH & REMOVE THE BATTERY THERE IS NO SAFETY BLEEDER RESISTOR IN THE GODOX UNIT & THE CONNECTOR WILL STILL HAVE 330 VOLTS DC ON IT EVEN DAYS LATER!!!!!!!

In only one of your fresnel speedlight heads per the photo above with the head removed remove R1 & R2.

In the photo above see the wire colors. Do not splice the orange wire but Put high voltage shrink tubing on it to insulate it, as it is not connected at the far head end of the extension cable. Splice all the other wires same color to same color, red, black, white, blue, green, & yellow, make sure to insulate them well where you make your y connection!

I believe this will work OK for your needs!

The unmodified head will have the modeling light work as before.

DO NOT EVER CONNECT MORE THAN ONE UNMODIFIED HEAD TO YOUR Y CABLE AS IT MAY DAMAGE (CATCH FIRE) YOUR HEADS OR FLASH UNIT!!!!

DISCLAMER : YOU ACCEPT ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR USE OF THIS INFORMATION & TO USE THIS INFORMATION IN A SAFE WAY!!!!

plus i want to cut the cable .. this is to add another flash.

could I just cut the cable and slice in another flash? keeping the wires of the same colour connected. Be like three ways... one cable goes into  two.

Re: Help needed 3D printing a RingLight housing for AD200/PRO & 24-70 f2.8

I would look for a local two way radio service shop that repairs at a component level, not a board swapping place!

If you need me to I can walk them through the process.

I design & build Public Safety Radio Systems, and own a shop as described above but can not do such work do to contactual obligations.

Such shops are a dying breed!

Will,

Thanks for your help. In Scotland in my campervan. Will try it this week when back in London

Might give it a try this week myself.

Don't really know what you mean by the orange cable. Can you explain it again?

Remember not got a clue. What is R1 and R2. Will I need to do this if just splicing cables together. How hard would it be? Would I need more than a soldering gun and the crocodile clips that hold the wires?

You must remove the two resistors!

that is orange wire!

Re: Help needed 3D printing a RingLight housing for AD200/PRO & 24-70 f2.8

Will like this.. Just want one cable with two heads. Dont need 400w. 200w will be enough. Though need the two heads

Bared back the scale .. could it be done to splice through and sort of create two heads with one cable

would I need to splice into all the cables and match the colours? Or can it work with just a few wires?

Re: Help needed 3D printing a RingLight housing for AD200/PRO & 24-70 f2.8

You must splice all but the unused orange wire or the head you leave off wires from will not fire!

The extension cable uses some tricky way to fire a trigger transformer at the head end without using the orange trigger wire that I have not bothered to figure out since I make my own cable.

I believe that  they do this to make it fire reliably with the longer cable extension.

do you think it would work what I am trying to do?

splice into all cables though not the orange one.
