Imperial vs metric size for grub screws

Need to buy a tiny pointy grub screw, something like in the picture to replace a lost one.

I measured it to be 2.7-2.8mm in diameter, roughly 3mm length. Metric screws come in M2.5 and M3, so I wonder if there is an imperial size that matches that thread better or if I shall go with M3.

Re: Imperial vs metric size for grub screws

Where did the part with the screw come from? If it was manufactured outside the US, it is almost certainly M3. I just measured the OD of some M3 screws with a micrometer: 2.85 - 2.9mm.
