Two weeks with the 50mm f/2 - my impressions
11

I bought the 50mm f/2 because I wanted a prime lens that makes me work more to get a better shot. With my 16-55mm I often felt lazy and it's heavy, so not ideal for walks. I also read that the 50mm f/2 is quite sharp and produces great colors. It surely does. All around I'm having a lot of fun with it. Can't wait to take it with me to the city and try it out there.

Lovbely shots that however suffer from artefacts easily vsible in sky and foliage probably due to oversharpening

I also own the lens and you should get absolutely clean images

Could you post your settings and processing workflow to go further..

I took them with these settings:

https://fujixweekly.com/2019/07/19/my-fujifilm-x-t30-kodacolor-film-simulation-recipe/

Classic Chrome
Dynamic Range: DR400
Highlight: -1
Shadow: +2
Color: -2
Sharpening: +2
Noise Reduction: -4
Grain: Strong
Color Chrome Effect: Off
White Balance: 6300K, -1 Red & -4 Blue
ISO: Auto up to ISO 6400
Exposure Compensation: +2/3

Except for the first one. I quite liked the effect!

IMHO the grain setting and the sharpening spoils the files just look to sky and foliage full of worms...

I like the shots but not the way they were processed

I haven’t checked out the .RAF files yet but I really enjoyed the contrast, colors and mood the film recipe created. I get what you say about the grain and sharpening, even though I have to admit I quite like it . Should I just set noise reduction and sharpening to get rid of it?

I usually ser sharpening to -1 and NR to 0 I think then you will get your effect without artefacts

We all have different opinions regarding noise reduction and sharpening. The value 0 in NR is not my recommendation as it kills details. Sharpening -1 is fine if you plan to sharpen further in post, but if you stick to SOOC JPEGs I would recommend +1 and sometimes even +2 depending on the scene. Personally I often use +1 for sharpening and -2 or -3 for NR and I don't see any disturbing artifacts or noise. I think the issue with the  photos presented here is +2 sharpening in combination with a strong grain setting. I usually never use grain and when I do I reduce the sharpening quite a bit.

Re: Two weeks with the 50mm f/2 - my impressions

I try to shoot 160 ISO as much as possible and 200 with the XH1 (which is easier with the iBIS) to get the max of fine details Agree that for PP NR -1 is better
