You're welcome! In the first place we need waiting for June FW update.

Would be interested to know if any other lenses exhibit this issue, which is particularly inconvenient in a telephoto zoom.

And NOW the IBIS works fine at 70 mm!

Firmware V2 resolved the problem with poor IBIS operation at 70 mm:

It took 3 hours to record and prepare this video.

I also own the 18-135 mm OSS lens, so I can make a similar test tomorrow for comparison between OSS and IBIS. Spoiler: I wasn't really happy with OSS on 18-135, as sometimes it makes soft photos at 1/125 s.

I own the A6600 an I have tried to photograph with OSS on and IBIS off or vise-versa. I have not found any setting in the A6600 to do that. I believe that when you shot off the IBIS in camera, the OSS on the 18-135 is also shot off. This believe is based on the fact that when I use the 70-300 G and I want to shot off image stabilization in the menu I receive a message that it has to be shut off on the lens.

Maybe you can tell me how you compare between OSS and IBIS

On native lens it's impossible to compare directly, OSS is always supported by IBIS. I meant that I could compare the OSS-equipped lens vs. IBIS only.

On Metabones adapter you can choose between IBIS and IS, and it's impossible to run both of them simultaneously.

Re: IBIS test on Sony A6500 and Tamron 70-180/2.8

I think the following can be done:

180mm OSS lens on A6000 (OSS only)

180mm unstabilized lens on A6500 (IBIS only)

180mm OSS lens on A6500 (OSS + IBIS)

I would be curious about this. It could even be done with 55-210 and the Tamron.

Re: IBIS test on Sony A6500 and Tamron 70-180/2.8

While V2 firmware fixed the problem with IBIS operation at 70 mm, still the problems with in-lens sound and periodical glitching on A6500 persist. Therefore I was urged to ship my lens to the service, it was done today.

There is a Youtuber called Arthur R that found his A6500 was less stable with OSS + IBIS than with either option utilized alone.

Overall, these results don't surprise me.  The A6500/A6600 IBIS is widely reputed to be weaker than the FF cameras and other manufacturers (e.g. Panasonic, Fuji).  Another reason why I'm waiting on the A6700!

Not precisely accurate. He had two inconsistent results. With a telephoto mounted, he found that IBIS plus OSS was a bit better than OSS alone.  In low  light with another lens, he did find the OSS alone to be very slightly better than when combined with IBIS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5opiwmCaXEM

While I do like his videos, it is very tough to test image stabilizers, as unless you have special equipment, it requires hand holding, which can be quite inconsistent.
