It isn't Lightroom, it is in your DNG.

I get the same 2400 ish K WB in Iridient Developer with your DNG.

and again, just clicking Auto fixes it.

and set to not use the profile with built in WB...

and not using the profile with auto WB

Thanks Shawn, that's that settled then!

For the OP, it's important to set the correct WB in camera because SIGMA uses a 3x3 colour matrix for WB − whilst the DNGs include a Dual Illuminant profile, it's against the CIE's Standard Illuminant A i.e. incandescent light with a correlated colour temperature of 2856K. Thus any correction is interpolated between the in-camera WB and 2856K!

N.B. only with X3Fs and SPP can you correctly change WB after shooting, everything else is interpolated.

For the Quattro's I've found Auto in camera works well most of the time. Dramatically better than the earlier cameras and if it is off easy to fix in LR with the DNG.

When using a digital camera to scan film  (negatives not slides so far) I just use some of the film base outside of the image area to set my white balance.

As I thought. Thanks for confirming it !

White balance correction works fine on DNGs.

Two DNGs set to different WB and set to As Shot in LR

Using Auto WB in Lightroom on both DNGs (Color temp was set exactly the same, tint differed by 3 between the files)

Set custom on each using a spot on the chart...

Fine :-(

Interesting choice of the word "fine" − speaks to mediocrity

...

And yet the colour and tint differences are very obvious to the eye (18% Grey especially, which isn't very useful), and a colour picker confirms it.

A Dual Illuminant profile will allow for a good approximation but you will run into issues in some lighting scenarios. I digress, really the point that I was making was... why settle for less than the correct 3x3 colour matrix? But an interpolated WB is indeed "fine" in most cases.

Consider that rhetorical, no benefit discussing further. Cheers

Do any other users care to share their experience?

Well when you choose DNG over proper RAW (X3F).. What do you expect?
