Canon has hit a HOME RUN
22

It is either a home run or a triple depending on your view of the lack of a built in EVF.  The EVF came as a package with the camera when I purchased it.  It really is not a factor to me.  I would prefer a built in EVF but I am not bothered by what I have.  The 32.5mp sensor is wonderful.  The IQ, the menu system, the camera's small size, the dead on focusing, are all just excellent.  I bought it in a weak moment when I went to my local brick and mortar camera store to look for camera bags.  It is now my go to camera and I will probably sell my m43 equipment.  The files from this camera are just better.

I couldn't agree more. I am glad I switched to this system and camera from M43. I get the sharpness I'm used to with M43, plus slightly better low light and action performance.

Agree, but more so.

I find the removable viewfinder to be a big plus.  I can put it on when I need it, which isn't that often, mostly bright light, and pocket it when I want an even sleeker camera.

I do find the EVF is built like, and mounts like, a tank.  On roadtrips, my m6ii lies in the center console tray banging around a bit.  And we have a lot of dirt roads with lots of banging around....

the eos M would be perfect if it had:

- 1/8000 max shutter speed

- 1/250 flash synchronisation

- weather sealing

- 120 fps progressive scan EVF

You can do High speed sync with an external flash unit though, right?

Canon do some small flashes that are ETTL and HSS i do believe?

It can so 1/16000 in electronic shutter. It's only in single shot mode, but still it's a great option for shooting at F1.4 in bright sun. I've used it on multiple occasions.

I think you can. I recently bought one on sale, but haven't had a chance to use it yet (I don't like flash, and hardly ever use it).

You may want to do some testing and research before you abandon m4/3. You will have a VERY difficult time finding Canon lenses with image quality equivalent to your 12-60mm f/2.8-4, 12-35mm f/2.8, and 35-100mm f/2.8. The EF-M 15-45mm is not even close and better alternatives are mostly non-existent.

For you lens quality obsessed, when was the last time you used that "quality"?

How many 16x20 cropped enlargements do you have hanging about?

Another +1 on m4/3. Even with the older 16 megapixel sensor, I like the system. Lenses are a big plus and features missing from Canon. Not perfect of course but fine for 13 x. 19 prints. Some excellent values on models on step behind. Still lighter and more compact than a M with adapter and better apsc lens. Choices for everyone

Plenty of 13 x 19 prints swapped through 7 frames. If you're just sharing pics on social media to be viewed on small screen portable devices, most recent phones are good enough for most viewers. No one complains about pics from our old iPhone 6s when viewing on their phones. Even pics taken with my old 6 megapixel Rebel look fine viewed on larger tablet, 50 in. HD tv. Just my .02 about GAS.

A 13x19 is hardly pushing any current technology.  I took great shots 20 years ago with a 3mp point and shoot.  Made great 8x10 and 11x14 prints.

My point was, and is, that there's a great deal of snobbery about regarding lens IQ and system quality, far beyond actual use cases.  Certainly at higher magnifications, one can find differences.  But are those differences real world?  Not in most folks use case.

My current camera has a 32mp sensor.  In evaluating lenses, I tend to do a 3X magnification in LR because that's the only way I can see differences.  In actual shooting, they're all same, from my lowly kit lens to my L lenses.

You don't need to print that large to see the difference.  Not only is the Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 far sharper than the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3, but the much brighter aperture means your ISO will likely be 2 stops lower with the m4/3 kit.  Sharp lens at ISO 1600 vs soft lens at ISO 6400.

If they are all the same to you, then why do you own any L lenses?

I agree, that's the main problem with the eos M:  for portability you have to sacrifice the sensor size and lens quality.

With m43 you only sacrifice the sensor size for portability. The lenses are good, nut expensive.

With Fuji you sacrifice the sensor size but you end up with full frame size glasses.

The FF sony E mount is almost perfect but it's not future proof.

The eos M could be one of the best if Canon didn't want to protect the eos R.

The zooms are a weak spot of the M sistem, but if you use primes (i prefer them over zooms), the 32mm is a f*€@€"g awesome lens. I'm in love with it.

The 22mm is also pretty good (even more if you consider it's price and size) and I recently purchased the sigma 56mm and it seems a very very good lens also.

I presume this is a rhetorical question?  Otherwise, it's pretty boneheaded, given (1) the differences between L lenses and M lenses, and a hint, it's not all about resolution and (2) I already had lenses from my previous kit.   Either or both of these should have been obvious.

No need to justify or change anyone's opinion. Just agreeing with the comment before me. I bought an M5 used. I liked the camera, but wasn't happy with the lenses and I found out in that adventure that I'm not a fan of adapting. I do plan to evaluate the next M that comes out I do have a niche for it.

Gave M43 a go. Found it to be a very likeable system. The 12-40 f2.8 is a great lens. That's my go to for heading out the door to have some fun.
