Re: what's the size of the sensor in Huawei P30?

Sensor size is 1/1.7, at least the main, wide sensor. It is actually relatively big for a phone, and combined with the special pixel design, low light results are quite good.

The "night" mode on my P30 Pro gives amazing results in low light...Much better than I can get out of my DSLR in the same lighting conditions.

I am skeptical that a smartphone sensor is "better" than a DSLR sensor and you don't mention what software you are processing your out of camera raw files with, so right there is a reason to be skeptical.

Maybe your comment should be say something like: "The Huawei P30 in camera processing can do better than I can with my DSLR and desktop software." ?

Doesn't this have more to do with in camera software processing that the sensor? From what I've read and seen, the Google Pixel phones also glorify the "cameras" but they rely more on a 100+ MB camera app for software processing as the actual lens resolution and sensors are similar to other "ordinary" phone cameras.

Add GCam app modified for camera XYZ and the sensor may then "magically" improve. Or in the right hands on a desktop, a DSLR sensor and various softwares could get better results, though maybe not on Auto, as your P30 uses Auto.

At the end of the day - it really matters little if the photos are tremendous...  and it makes little sense to compare a DSLR with a phone.. one fits in your pocket and is with you all the time.. the other -is a weight around your neck.  I'll take the former 9 times out of 10 unless I'm doing something specialized like Bird Photography.  Amazing what we have in our pockets these days... and still want more more more.

I have no idea why you can't find it. It's not hard. I did a search with DuckDuckGo and, golly, the first link it gave me listed the size of all the camera sensors in the p30 pro.

A DLSR is intended for you to take a photo. Camera phones rely on computational photography--artificial intelligence--to take a photo for you.

The RYYB sensors used by Huawei do seem to gather more light than RGB sensors used by, well, everyone else. I had a p30 pro and got a p40 pro and I love night shots and never need "Night Shot" mode. The sensor is sensitive enough to work for me

These images are straight out of my P30 Pro...And they are not RAW files coming out of it...They are jpegs!   These were taken using "Night" mode, some handheld and some leaning the phone against a convenient solid object, as I never carry a tripod.                       I have a Sigma SD14 DSLR and at night it can't get anywhere near the quality that the P30 Pro can capture at night...It really is a game changing phone!                                          I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S7, which was average image quality wise in good light but it was no good at night either...So I am very happy I went with the P30 Pro, rather than upgrade to another mediocre, yet over priced Samsung.
