My Lumix journey
5

I don't have my very first "real" camera (GF5) but for some reason I still have all my other ones.! For fun maybe others can share too. Since 2012 to now below is a list of my favorite Lumix cameras ranked in overall shooting experience.

1. G9 - ergo, handling, evf, Ibis, autofocus speed and accuracy all wonderful! Love this camera!

2. GM5 - this is great for when you want an uber portable system to take on the go. Good image quality. Evf not great. But size and weight make it unique and fun. I still use it frequently.

3. S1R - still getting adjusted to this one as I got it in 2020. Great image quality. I've finally got used to the weight. Auto focus is a letdown currently. Body and lenses are Yuuuuge!

4. GX8 - still love the rangefinder look and that rotating evf. Was a step up in autofocus and Ibis from the gx7 but well behind the G9. I had experienced shutter shock issues with certain lenses...boo

5. GX7 - great time with this camera after my first Lumix GF5. Solid camera that over time has seen good evolutionary improvements.

I'm a bit jealous of the two on the ends. ( I have the rest and GF9, GX9, & GH4)

I'm not too far off from you.  GX7, GX8, G85, GM5 and G9's.  GX7 and G85 are sold, the GM5 was commandeered by my better half so I only get to touch it when she inadvertently changes a setting and can't get it back to the way she wants it.   I still like the GX8 but my G9's get grabbed first - I have 2 of them and really like them.   Had a Pen F too but didn't care for it.

I thought about the S1 but didn't want to start a new lens collection.

Great collection - amazed the S1R`s AF is poor - but then the Live View AF on the D850 is comically bad (is it the same sensor ? - the D850s isn`t a sony)

I`ve had dotted over the last 10 years --- GH1, GH2, GH3 ...  GF1... GM1, GM5 .... G1, G2, G3, G5... GX7, GX80 and GX8 ........ I`ve  Just got the GX8 and the G5 of all things - have used G9 coming .

Faves from that lot being the GH3 , the GM1 and GM5, really like the GX8 too and liked the GX7  despite the shutter shock being worse than the GX8 has been by far  --- disliked the GH2 on many levels , hated the handling of the GX80 (always pressing stuff picking the damn thing up or pulling out of a coat pocket for one) .

You should .. I do not have the Lumix experience of the OP for Lumix cameras (only had a GX80 which I sold mostly because of the EVF) but there is no denying that , for still photography, the G9 is the best digital ILC produced by Panasonic

Plus with the regular prices promo bringing this body to less than 1,000 $ or €, it is actually a steal

I have shot several brands since I turned to digital 15 years ago and the G9 is clearly the best  digital ILC I have ever used

I recommend you spend the time to customise your cameras to your needs

Well M43 anyway - there is the S1R now bascially a Full frame 47Mp G9 ...

I`ve got a barely used one coming with 12 Month warranty from a dealer with less than 2K on the clock for £690 to the door .. not spent this much on a M43 cam since the EP1 launched .. even my mint used EM1 was cheaper at the time (2014/15) ..

I recommend you spend the time to customise your cameras to your needs

I always do this and make full use of the Custom modes on the dial

Pan have to cave in and do PDAF at some stage, they finally managed Electronic 1st curtain apparently in the GH5, G9 and S series so no need for a slow electromagnetic shutter (8000 sec mech back like the GX8 has) , they must have squeezed all they can from DFD

well if  needed (which I do not) or wanted(which I do not ) a 35mm camera the Panasonic S is the ONLY one I could use for my work

Good .. I use custom mode dials also but I still finessing some of my settings now that I started a macro work I am trying to customise one just for macro work

Enjoy your camera

Thanks Harold - Hope I do .. I`m hoping and expecting all the slagging off the tracking AF gets to be like the Hyperbole strewn GX8 shutter shock posts --- mostly overstated . I`ve downloaded FW 2.1 ready to install when it lands (it`s got 1.3 I think)

I have the same lineup as you, except a second G9 instead of the S1R.  I don't expect to ever go into FF, unless I win the lottery, in which case a Leica Q2 would probably quickly be mine.
