Back to the future - Nimslo 3D quad lens camera

Hi, having a sort out and came across an old friend that has been gathering dust.

I think I just need to source some batteries and should be good to go, but any tips, suggestions from anyone who has used /owns one is appreciated.

Stubled across this article - https://www.outsidetheshot.com/nimslo-3d-camera/ which has some additional info, but like the article says no lenticular lab printing services, and a google search throws up very little in the way of printing services in the E.U for trying out a roll off film, unless I want a short batch run of each or an image to fit the side of a bus.

Dpreview has a feature on a 2010 Fuji 3d printer - https://www.dpreview.com/articles/2090735591/fuji3dprinter but no further info can be found for a stockist.

Here is a pictue if anyone is interested.

If you insist, you can buy lenticular plastic and print at home using your inkjet printer.

Not an easy task though, but could be rewarding if you are really serious.

A very economical route for lenticular plastic is a re-loadable "souvenir frame" from Vuethru.

But I have to stress it again: go for it if and only if you are determined to eventually  achieve good results and ready to spend months on disappointments.

Thanks for your reply and I'll have a look at Vuethru. Is this something you have tried with success using the Nimslo or similar, or just created the 3d look using a vendors software?

Here is a picture from the Nimslo, one of a few stored inside the box. The vendors that create and sell 3d lenticular products seem much more vivid using the zoom or morphing software and printing than the film version but I guess that is just progress in techniques over the years.

Stereo Realist film cameras still usable and viewing in  slide viewers is very nice...  just a reminder of what is still viable and readily available...FILM and slide viewing and mounting is easy. I found.

I did experiment with lenticular prints from stereopairs shot with DIY dual-digital-camera rig.

For now the "project" is on-hold, but the intermediate results were promising enough, so that I plan to revive it.

To add the other half for those who recently discover the marvel of stereoscopic photography. The mounting of two images, from film like Velvia or Ektachrome is fairly easy. And the cutters and mounts are out there.. nothing beats a color photo in a hand viewer. But that is only from my 60 years playing with this wonderful photo imaging. I can free view both parallel and cross, and I have anaglyph glasses.

Once you have seen a well exposed and properly mounted slide in a Realist black red button one is hooked.. of course, the old Holmes prints are not bad, but Realist did it big time... Here are a few of the mounting items I still have, And , if motivated, will employ....And by the way, not costly as a hobby...True. Ask Dr T, he knows

Some of the accessories for the Stereo Realist, A true system of film photography. Both taking and viewing. Gadget on right is just an after market item to further align for perfect window placement if you understand about windows and such.... welcome to our world ...shucks DPR gave it a forum..

Back to the topic...

I think I've got the most practical suggestion for you to get into lenticular stuff.

Do buy a smartphone with lenticular screen (example: Elephone P11-3D), but prepare the files yourself.

Based on my experience with an older model (Elephone P8-3D), you can expect the phone to come with software that automatically shows stereopair (left+right) in stereo. The quality is very good except of small size and single viewpoint.

Still you may find yourself fully satisfied; it's OK for personal viewing.

But since you start with 4 frames, you can go further and generate proper ultimate interlaced files yourself. The process is generally the same as for inkjet printing, and you don't waste supplies while you learn.

You need to determine physical parameters of your sample, afterwards it becomes more or less automatic. The parameters are visual-pitch (lenticular-overlay LPI), lenticular-overlay offset and lenticular-overlay rotation.

Ask more if you are seriously interested and committed to achieve the results.
