Re: The first Pentax DSLR

1st shot I think I'd give the edge to the Nikon.

2nd shot light has changed so really can't compare.

Thanks for your feedback, don't forget that I made more than 17 comparisons to get a better idea.
P.S. Following your remark, I replaced the photo of the Nikon on flickr.

Re: The first Pentax DSLR

Thanks for doing this Maoby.

A couple of things to consider - the 18-35 wasn't one of Pentax's shining lights, although some people seem to like them. They were sold off very cheaply when digital came along.

Also, did you shoot these in Raw or jpeg? The *istD's jpegs were pretty ordinary when compared to Raw output. You couldn't fix that by shooting TIFF either, as the TIFF was converted from jpeg, not Raw.

Nice camera though, that really showed its true potential when they released the DA16-45 f4.0.

Cheers

Re: The first Pentax DSLR

Okay with you
Here, half of the photos were taken with the Pentax-DA 40mm f/2.8 XS
And for the Nikon : the old nikkor AF 28mm doesn't have a very good reputation.

And yes, all the photographs were taken in RAW
Thank you!

Well, in that case, early on in the series it doesn't look good for the *istD but, as one progresses through, the results seem to even out, making the differences almost non existent. Other than focus, colour balance, rendering, etc.

So, I believe they're basically equivalent.

Good, fun shoot, for you.

I saw a tremendous difference with my *istD images when I switched to shooting and developing the PEF files. Sooo much better than the jpeg's from the camera!

A quick question, did these two bodies use the same sensor ?

All I want is a digital back for my trusty K1000 . . .

Re: The first Pentax DSLR

At the time, we could read that it used the same sensor as the Nikon D100 (2002)
See the DPREVIEW review here : https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxistd

And that the Nikon D70 (2004) also had the same sensor as the Nikon D100 (2002)
https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond70

It would seem that yes …!
