Disable focus reset/blackout when reviewing images?
Apr 5, 2020
I have a medium sized bag with a handy Fuji X-E3 which I use next to my full frame Nikon system. One of the little annoyances I have with the Fuji is that the lens/autofocus seems to reset when reviewing my images. This results in a delay when you want to get back to taking pictures after reviewing your image. Because first the lens has to get back to the last focus position. On my 23 F1.4, that's no problem because the throw is shorter or the AF is fast enough, but on its significantly slower brother, the 35 1.4, this takes just a little too much time. Almost 1s in extreme cases (when the 35 is at its closest focus distance). It also keeps the screen/viewfinder black until it's finished.
How to reproduce with the 35 F1.4 on X-E3.
1/ put the body on manual focus mode
2/ manually focus the lens all the way to its minimum focus distance
3/ press the image preview button to view your last photo
4/ press it again to get back to viewfinder mode, ready to take pictures.
Repeat 3 & 4 relatively fast and I see the 35 F1.4's front element jumping back & forth. While I have not changed focus or touched the shutter whatsoever. It' the same as turning the camera on & off. But reviewing a photo in the field is not quite the same as turning it off, now? I don't understand the logic of behind it. Also, I have only one Fuji X body, so I'm not sure it does the same on other bodies. Also, if you enable image review, you get to see your photo straight after taking it, without the delay. But I leave that off and want to have the choice of reviewing or not. It also saves battery.
I apologise if this has been asked before, but is there a way to disable this "focus reset" when reviewing an image? Have I overlooked I a simple menu setting?
