X100V Flickering

Hey guys. My X100V's screen flickers when I half press the shutter button to focus. This happens at f2.8, less so at f2.5 and f2.2. It stops at f2. It happens a tiny bit at f3.2 but not at f4 and smaller. It's really kind of annoying me. Other than this it's fantastic but if this is a defect I'm returning it...

Normal - keep it

Your time is limited, so don't waste it arguing about camera features - go out and capture memories - Oh, and size does matter - shoot MF

I tried to replicate your experience and cannot.

Tried F/2.8 with Boost Mode = ON and OFF.

No flickering.

Exactly how is your camera setup so I can try to replicate exactly.

Re: X100V Flickering

Thanks for going through the effort I just tried it again at 1/30, f2.8. ISO 640.

I'll add to my findings:

1) It only occurs if the camera has to autofocus a bit. If i'm focusing on objects with only a few cm of distance difference from the camera it doesn't do it.

2) It seems to happen more often in poorly lit conditions. So if you do the test again it might be a good idea to try that. In my poorly lit room you would have to shoot at ISO 3200 to get good enough light for 1/80, f3.2 for example.

I suspect this happens when the camera is struggling to autofocus ie in a darker lit room. I also notice, looking at the barrel as it focuses, the change in flickering might be due to a sudden drop in exposure when the aperture quickly closes to focus and then reopens. This however does not explain why the flickering stops when I pass F3.2 and is therefore not a definite.

FYI, regardless of your aperture setting, your camera will focus wide open.

Re: X100V Flickering

Exactly. That's why my original hypothesis was that the camera was losing a stop of light in order to focus hence the sudden darkening of the screen however this doesn't happen past f3.2 so that can't really be the case, can it?

Does it happen with all metering modes?

Just tried. Metering mode doesn't affect anything. Also, I'm in a computer lab right now which is brighter. It's not happening when I focus on well lit surfaces however, when I focus on my black keyboard, black chair or anything dark it flickers. Very strange!

I think it's happening when I focus on anything darker. Maybe because the AF has to work harder.

For me, it did not happend in a poorly lit room. I did have Auto-ISO with a 12,800 max at F/2.8. I suspect there is some setting that is causing it.

Re: X100V Flickering

Been trying a lot of settings. I'm beginning to definitely think it's a faulty camera :/ I've contacted Fuji support but they're not responding. My return time is running out so I think i've got to send it back...

Re: X100V Flickering

I have the identical problem with my x100v. Every time I press the shutter halfway there's a repeated on/off exposure shift that makes the image flicker. Camera did this out of the box but being a techno-klutz I was sure it was me. Finally sent it to Fuji saying with description saying what gives? First they cleaned it and sent it back. Same. Sent it back again, this time they replaced the lens and power board. Same. Called repair, they claimed they couldn't reproduce the phenomenon. I sent pics examples. Okay, send it back again, they still couldn't make it happen but they exchanged it for new one. This one sure looked like an open box unit but I'm trusting by nature. OMG, again the flicker! Once more repair claimed they couldn't duplicate the behavior. I'm looking at it now and I can make it happen easy, just press the button halfway and there's the flicker. I'm sick about this. This thread exactly describes the issue. I'm taking it back to dealer and showing them the problem and relying on their clout to replace with new. Shoulda done that in the beginning but I didn't enjoy my buying experience with the dealer. Buyer's remorse.

Got it fixed? I have the exact same problem on my x100v and i couldn't find any fix

Re: X100V Flickering

Sorry I’ve been out of touch so long but here’s what happened since;

Totally frustrated with the repair department at Fujifilm’s but still loving the pics and camera itself I sent it to a Fuji authorized independent camera repair in NYC I forget the name. Guy says he did a factory reset, you know, the little option in the menu that you carefully avoid so as to preserve all your precious settings. Ok, all my settings had to be redone but I never saw the flickering again. $25 it cost me but it’s free to you!

Re: X100V Flickering

Thank you for the reply! I really apreciate it!

I have the exact same problem with my camera, at the exact same apertures. It's kinda funny. I will try a factory reset and see if this can fix it. Mine is doing this only in AF-S and dark enviorment and artificial light. If i am shooting outdoors in natural light the flickering is gone. It's really weird.

I will give a shot with the factory reset .Finger crossed!

Thank you!!

Re: X100V Flickering

I did the factory reset. Still flickers. It's really weird. Between f 2.2-f 3.6 it flcikers dark if i focus on dark subjects/objects/surfaces...between f 3.6-f 5.6 if flickers bright if i focus on bright subjects/objects/surfaces. I'm clueless..
