DIY Flash and Umbrella Attachment - Simple and Cheap

I didn't like the easily broken normal attachment method using the hot-shoe end of the flash, so have devised my own:

Here is a photo of the actual unit with flash and umbrella attached:

It works perfectly.  Hopefully it might be of interest to those wanting a very cheap, and simple to make portrait accessory.

Cheers

How does it hold the umbrella in place once positioned?

Pretty creative!  I suppose a clothes pin would keep the umbrella shaft from sliding.

Actually the weight of the umbrella itself seems to hold the stem in place, but a spring paper clip, or a rubber band wound onto the stem and slid down to where the stem enters the hole can more securely hold it in place.
