G7 jpeg settings

Hi

I have a G7 with a few prime lenses and my workflow has recently changed due to having a baby and having way less time!

I used to shoot in RAW and have the luxury of being able to spend time editing in lightroom.

However now I need to switch to shooting mostly in jpeg and so want to do more of the work in camera. For context I have a website and am doing editorial style images for my site.

The jpegs aren't too bad currently, but I wondered if anyone had any settings recommendations to make them the best they can be?

I realise this is a slightly older camera now.

Thank you.

Not own G7, but have GX1, GX7, GX85 and G85 that are still in active using.

I am becoming a more SOOC jpg shooter in recent years looking for the ultimate goal of no PP (not successful yet).

IMHO the key factor on getting a less PP required jpg, lighting is the most important factor. Hence push exposure as much as possible, even at a cost on blowing meaningless (no detail) highlight area, could yield a cleaner output. It is therefore also important on our decision on what to take and what to give up at the time of setting. It would take more consideration than 100% ETTR.

2nd, on most of my Pannys I found they have a general tendency on under exposure to protect highlight. GX7 and G85 is around -1/3ev, GX85 is around -2/3ev. Therefore at 0ev exposure usually the output would be more flat and more noisy as well. Test the behaviour of G7 such that you can adjust it for a more pop, vibrant and cleaner SOOC jpg.

Also I found the NR of jpg setting, if too aggressive, would not only can't preserve more fine detail, the noise will be worse. Therefore, I keep all jpg setting at their default.

Anything other than portrait, I shall use Vivid mode for the extra saturation (I like color), extra contrast and sharpness. It can produce very pleasant SOOC jpg. But it is not very good for skin color if the image needs editing. For portrait, I use Standard instead.

My 2 cents.
