70-200mm f/2.8 has it place.

70-300 on crop next to a full frame body is nice, but if the full frame body goes up to 240mm it's probably not used very often.

Yep, that will be the question. Probably not enough difference from 240mm to use it on the R6. And the 24-240 is more versatile and might have somewhat better IQ but for use on the crop bodies as a travel zoom, smaller and lighter than the Canon 100-400.

i beg to differ with you, i wouldn't call a 24-240 a versatile lens. a canon 100-400 II is truly versatile lens considering its mfd and sharpness throughout the range. not only canon 100400 II has a short mfd, it can be used as a macro lens. and for travel? it is the same size as a 70200 when retracted, and believe me, when i put it in my bag, i don't even feel it is there. you can only understand its versatility if you own one!

I do own the Canon 100-400 and it is a wonderful lens, but small and light?  No.

Never thought of it as a 'superzoom' but it doesn't look terrible.

Back in the film days I had a Tamron 28-200, that was considered a "Super Zoom". But it was pretty bad even from yesterday standards.

What's an EF 800 5.6 with a 2X extender called then?

800mm = Super Tele

800mm + 2x = 1600mm = 2x Super Tele

Super-telephoto.  Definitely not a zoom, super or otherwise.

This will indeed be a issue.  Not really much use for the 70-300II adapted on the R6 but may keep it as lighter weight walk-around/travel lens for my APs-C bodies
