First meeting for me since December last year. Some events have been held the last couple of weekends but only riders allowed, no crew or spectators until yesterday.

Got to try out my new toys.

yeah, looks worse in that photo than it did in real life. He just got up and dusted himself off !

... sharp enough, why is it you've always got a slow shutter speed selected when this stuff happens.

1968 Lotus 56 turbine IndyCar. I love the hot air coming out the top exhaust. I took this a few weeks ago at Road America.

It was very cool. It sounds like a track cleaner when it drove by. Most of the vintage Indy cars we driving at a very modest speed.

Very nice photos. Drag racing is a form of motorsports I have never experienced. Need to check it off some time soon.

Sweet shots Sir!

Particularly like the Super Gas Mustang and the bike burnout in mono.

Only running test ‘n’ tune and ‘RWYB’ in the UK at the moment - better than nothing though!

A few from the Riverside International Raceway in 1965, scanned off (very) old slides.

Porsche 904 No. 31, don't know the driver's name

A Chaparral 2C, probably being driven by Jim Hall.  Yeah, I know, it's blurry.

Somebody in a 'Vette

A somewhat different form of motorsport - you have twelve miles across a salt lake bed to go as fast as you dare.....

Re: Few more Nostalgia Drag Racing shots

Very nice pictures. I used to watch drag racing in the 70's and regularly go to Santa Pod, but haven't been recently. Are your pictures from the stands, or is there a banking there now? Are there good places to photograph?

A few of how I remember it.

It hasn’t changed much!!

There is still the grass bank along the full length of the right lane. The left hand lane has grandstand until about the 660’ mark, still with the staging lanes and pits behind. My shots were from the grandstand. We were limited where we could sit or stand due to COVID!

The left hand side has catch net fencing all along so photographing from that side is impossible other than the grandstand. The right side grass bank is good for the full length. Start line is impossible without a media pass, they’re really strict and a pass is like rocking horse $h1t. The ‘barn’ behind the start line and burnout boxes has gone. No access there either without a pass. The white picket fence has been replaced by a concrete wall.

In summary it’s not that good. Worthy of a day out but not a regular thing unless you’re media accredited then it would be great.

I first went in the seventies with a guy called Tony Froome who ran a Funny car called Sundance (you wouldn’t have a shot of that would you?). I was ten years old and became hooked. In my twenties thro’ thirties ran three cars, a ‘71 Mustang Mach1, a ‘34 Ford and a ‘41 Willy’s Coupe. I gave up when the bailiffs came calling!!

Finally Al O’Connor is still campaigning Al’s Gasser as seen in your pic!

Re: Few more Nostalgia Drag Racing shots

Thank you for the update. I suppose it is inevitable that safety improvements have been implemented over the last 40+ years. The main downside though is to photographers, although it hasn't stopped you taking some great photos!. I think I need to put Santa Pod on my bucket list, as I can still remember the sound, smell and spectacle of drag racing.

I've had a quick look at the slides I've already scanned but can't see Tony Froome's (a Vauxhall body?) funny car. I went to Santa Pod and Blackbushe quite a few times in the mid 70's and still have boxed of slides on my "to do" list so he may be in there. Its amazing that Al O'Connor is still racing.

I won't have seen you race but your cars sound interesting - do you have any photos?

I have a few more pictures from Santa Pod which you may have seen "when you were a lad".

Thanks again for prompting the memories!
