Recently I bought a second hand EM1.1 in pristine condition, plus the battery grip , 2 Olympus batteries and a RRS L plate for $270 including PP and shipping. Seemed like a good deal to me. It was cheaper than sending in my original EM-1 (purchased in 2013) for needed repairs.

I had moved on to a Panasonic GX8, but wanted to keep the Em1 for use with my older 4/3 lenses.

Now if only the EM1.2 sinks to that price........

The only reason the EM1.2 would sink is if nobody wants it anymore. If that's the case you need to ask yourself why you still want it.

Why on earth should it matter what other people think?

Most people aren't as different from everyone else as they like to think.  Chances are if something is unpopular there's a good reason for it.

Re: Sad Used Prices for EM-1 first edition

I recently replaced a 12 year old Jeep with 2015 Mercedes, The Mercedes does not have all the features of a new one, but it's still a very nice car and quite an upgrade for me,  and it cost less than half of what it sold for new

The original EM-1 was and remains a fine camera. It's been superseded by the Mark II and now the III, which both  have much more sophisticated feature sets, such that the Mark I has lost resale value. But for me that does not change its value as a useful camera, in fact I see it as an opportunity.

I'll feel the same way when I get a "bargain" on the Mark II

Re: Why I gave one of mine...

Aw. that is truly SAD!!!

<<I gave my EM10 to my 13 year old son. I couldn’t bear to part with it to a buyer I didn’t know for such a low price. Knowing it was going to my son, who would appreciate it and use it to develop his photographic skills, was by far the better option for something I had treasured.

My wife and son sold it on ebay a week later.>>

If you say so. Personally I like to form my own opinions. If I am happy with something in life, then I am happy with it.  I don't need other people to tell me whether I should like something or not.

If you don't want your E-M1 then don't be surprised if other people don't want it either.

I think you misunderstand my point.  I'm not telling you to base your opinion on anybody else's; I'm saying you might find yourself in agreement with other's opinions quite naturally.  If they all think a camera isn't worth much, odds are you won't think it's worth much either.  If that turns out not to be the case, congratulations, you find yourself in a lucky place.

I find it ironic to have this conversation in the m4/3 forum, where you kind of have to be a bit contrarian to begin with.  Nobody buys into this system because it's the most popular.

Unfortunately, peer pressure and mob mentality does drive purchases.  Ever  see someone come to a group and say "I just bought x camera!"?  They are looking for affirmation that they've just done a good thing.

Re: Sad Used Prices for EM-1 first edition

I was myself recently looking for an EM1 on the basis that flagship cameras are always better than also rans but in this case I found too many listed as faulty due to the unresponsive button or wheel failure mentioned above. It seems inevitable that any old mark 1 versions of that camera will suffer with that problem eventually. I was drawn to the camera by looking at Flickr images which seem great but I was too worried about the problems to take the plunge and buy one. I think later in the model release it was fixed but how can you tell if you had the right model which has the fix applied? I wanted to do my move on the cheap so went back to Lumix models instead. I also run the Fuji X system so it's doubtful I will now expand back into Olympus. Also I find their model structure difficult to understand. The base model, medium and flagship. It's difficult from the nomenclature to work out which model is which without extensive research

Yep, happens all the time here  People post that they've ordered and then recieved their gear, then their first cat pictures.

Just out of curiosity, today I checked KEH for selling (to KEH) prices on both my EM1 and GX7 camera bodies both in excellent plus condition. While the EM1 only fetches $95 dollars US, they will give me $129 for the GX7 yet the EM1 is superior in so many ways.

I got more than $100 from KEH for my Fuji X10 which sold new for less than 1/3 of what the E-M1 did.

I see local Craigslist ads offering E-M1 bodies for $200.

Good for buyers, I'd say.

It's amazing for buyers.  Entirely within the realm of almost anyone's finances to have two bodies, with two lenses, on a tough camera capable of amazing results.  We don't know how good we have it today.

The GX7 has held more value because in many people’s opinion, Panasonic didn’t make a proper replacement. Remember the howling over the size of the GX8? I have it now and only wish I had bought it sooner, but I listened to the chatter. I think the size of the G9 has made the GX8 more acceptable. Then Panasonic launched the GX85 which seen as a downgrade in some aspects, and now the GX9, which is still not a flagship class camera the way the GX8 was.

Cameras which have been downgraded in some fashion:

Olympus E-M10III, Panasonic GX9, Olympus E-M5III.

I hardly think the EM-5III is a downgraded camera. It is said to be much more effective in C-AF and has numerous software capabilities. It appears to be an excellent mid-grade camera that would make most photographers very happy.

Any others?

Physically downgraded. Downgrades cover a lot of things.

You mean smaller?

More plastic.

I know I'm a rare case. But I prefer plastic/composite (+metal frame) vs all/mostly metal for cameras and lenses. I'll take the scratch and dent resistance along with the weight savings (and, perhaps, cost savings).

It's a near-fetish for some to have things that are all metal, and perhaps it's what "the pros prefer."

Personally, I don't get it. 🤷‍♂️

But hey, different strokes for different folks.

Plastic is ok as the shell of a camera, but not for internal parts to any extent. I don't know anyone who was for example going to spend $2000 on a camera who would want a plastic shell though.

You mean like a Tesla?
