I bet you will also find a color shift if you take a photo with no lens attached. Prove me wrong!

Well...there is a shift without the lens. But...certainly not what I expected. What the hell yall? I shot this at 1/800s f4 at my desk of the same piece of paper.

Thanks Mike. I manually corrected the ones on the flickr. They all had the color shift though.

A spectacular image David...

thanks

in detail and in color quality. No Bayer camera can do that.

that’s why we’re here, isn’t it?

Out of curiosity, what is the latest model pure [1:1:1] Foveon fixed-lens camera? I don't want a half-Foveon (quattro line i think?) or Bayer fp.

DP3 Merrill. 50mm (75mm equiv.). Well-regarded here.

Best camera I've ever owned.

Mike, what values did you create the overlay on?

Funny you should ask...........to be honest it falls mostly in the SWAG (scientific wild ass guess) category. Nothing earth shaking by any stretch of the imagination. No hard numbers involved (sorry Ted) strictly by eye ( or gut ).

I remember reading several years ago about color casts when adapting older manual lenses lenses to the SD1 so I did a google search (Sigma SD1 color casts) and came across this thread.

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3568214

and started from there.

I then found a color wheel on line that had some color gradations to it and chose a color opposite of the pink color for the green........tried a couple of different shades for the green that appeared to be close and "fiddled" until I felt I had something that would work (?).

Sometimes we all get caught up in a quest motivated more by curiosity than anything and occasionally things work out (more or less ).

Nice Gallery you have............Mike

Mike, thank you for looking, and thanks for the explanation of your serendipitous experiment!

I just posted an image in another thread (18-300 telephoto with SD1M) where I needed to fix magenta-green discoloration in a quick-and-dirty way. Here's what I did:

- opened Tiff in Photoshop

- converted to LAB color space (allows adjustment of color

independent of luminosity, keeping things pure)

- created a CURVES adjustment layer, in order to be able to apply the effect only where I wanted

- took the A channel (magenta/green) and completely reversed the curve

- filled the mask of this adjustment layer to black (to make its effects invisible)

- handpainted quickly with a white paintbrush set to 20% opacity to make the adjustment layer partially visible where I brushed. There are many other ways to apply these adjustments, and many other ways to do come at them, I just wanted to share a quick one for images that aren't mission-critical perfection isn't needed

Cheers

Gotta luv this Forum.

DP2M:

Now you see it (RawDigger RGB export):

Now you don't (SPP 5.5.3 TIFF):

Both color-balanced at center in RawTherapee and saved as JPEG from there.

Re: New SD1 Owner! Help! Color Probs (and some fun first pics)

So, xpat,

Am I understanding you right that many of the Merrill series cameras have this problem, (even when paired with lenses that are optimized for the fixed lens sensor) and that SPP is correcting it with a preset adjustment for each lens used?

This would mean basically, that the built in SPP setting for the 12-24mm DG is off. Perhaps the lens profile was calibrated using the SD14 or another camera, and it corrects the green/magenta when used on that camera, but then the profile doesn't work when the lens is attached to the SD1. Does that sum it up?

I'm not a fan of the lens anyway. Pretty much trapped at f11 and on a tripod. So this would be good news for me in a way, because it would just mean upgrading the lens to one with an SPP profile Sigma has actually cared for more.
