Re: X-T1 Upgrade Advice: XT-4 or X-H1 with 16-55

I'd go with the XH1 combo if I were you. First off, if you're in any sort of hurry that may be your only option. It could be fall by the time you see the XT4 readily available. For video the XT3/XT4 offers a step up in higher frame rates as the XH1 is limited to 30fps in 4k. 8 bit vs 10 bit color isn't a huge deal unless you're really trying to heavily alter what you captured in camera. I shoot commercially with the XH1 and I've never had a client anything less than thrilled with the results. Even when I need 60fps and shoot in 1080 it's hardly an issue as the 1080 in the XH1 looks really nice. The AF for video could be better but honestly with the amount of focus breathing in Fuji lenses I'm not using CAF unless absolutely necessary anyway.

Hello all,

Been meaning to upgrade my X-T1 and get a 24-70 equivalent zoom for my event work. The x-t1 pretty beat up (e.g screen doesnt work) and my 35mm f2 is often not wide enough for group shots, not that versatile when doing events.

Looking for better af, better handling (grip is rather shallow on the t1), a bump in resolution, some decent video chops, a workhorse generally.

You sure will get all the above upgraded, but (to me) the down grade was the IQ. I had the XH1 and used it heavily for 12 months and no matter what I tried the colors were different than my XT1 and I did not like them. Got rid of the XH1.

Will you notice what I noticed? Maybe not.

I found the EVF/LCD button select button function sooooooo annoying and irritating. Never liked that thing. The XT1 is so simple.

Now, the t4 body is coming out at $1700, the xh1 with 16-55 is around the same price.

I've used my XT1 a LOT for events too and the AF simply works. How is it failing you?

The XH1 AF is somewhat better for AF-C stuff but to be honest for AF-S it was not a very big deal and my camera had AF problems and locked up in certain situations. The funny thing is that I use my XT1 the exact same way and that sucker never fails or freezes.

XH1 never got and will never get a firmware upgrade for AF so the bigger difference is in the T3 for sure. I've seen the bigger AF improvement there so you decide.

It won't take long until the T3 starts dropping down in price so I would definitely wait for a lower priced T3 somewhere.

The shiny new xt4 is tempting with all the advances in af and all. The flippy screen, having used a gh5 I dont care much for it. I have no issue with xt1 implementation save the fact that it doesnt do vertical tilt.

To go for the latest and greatest now, or to go for decent body and some glass?

What do you guys think?

The AF may be better. That remains to be seen. If you a stills shooter you won’t even know the difference.

The marketing people try to make us feel like we just have to have this new product. We will become so much better in our craft. Not so. If you can’t take a decent pic with what you have a new camera isn’t going to help.

If your worried about about 1st gen ibis then don’t but the xt4.  It 1st gen. Fuji has never made an ibis like that before.

So, their experience with the X-H1 doesn’t count?  Please explain further, or at least clarify how their experience with the X-H1 isn’t relevant.

Excuse me Jerry for not mentioning the XH1.  I own one myself and it works fine for me.

Yup, and for me as well.  It would seem that the experience that Fuji has garnered with the X-H1 would be quite relevant for future designs, such as the X-T4 and/or X-H1 successor (if and when that arrives).  Most of what I’ve read from users who have actually owned or used an X-H1 with respect to the IBIS implementation is quite positive, and that’s certainly been my experience.  As such, I would [hopefully reasonably] expect that whatever they do in the X-T4 should be an equally competent implementation at the very least.

I hope the T4 sells well. As for me the H1 fits me perfectly. Its a camera I can carry all day. I enjoy the extra freedom ibis gives me, although I am not a video shooter.

As for me I shoot landscape and architectural. I am trying to decide on upgrading to the 16-55 or 16-80.
