Canon M6 Mark II + Third Party EF-M Lens

I'm hoping someone can help.

I have recently purchased a Canon EOS M6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera. I was hoping to take some large landscape shots and so after looking at reviews but budget considerations, opted to pick up a Samyang 12mm F2.0 Prime EF-M Lens

I am able to get the lens onto the camera, but when trying to shoot, it refuses to take a picture. From basic research online it seems this is because the lens is not communicating with the camera - which as a third party lens, I'm lead to believe is normal.

So does anyone know how I get around this issue? is there a way of setting the camera up so that it doesn't require the connection? I can't seem to find anything. The camera is already running the most up to date firmware 1.0.1

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Bobin

It's a setting. The camera "thinks" there's no lens. However, you can tell the camera to take a picture even though there's no lens.  I did this for my M50. I don't have a M6mkII, however, someone else who has one could probably tell you where you can find this setting on your M6mkII.

On the M5, it's under C. Fn 2 - Others -> Release shutter w/o lens -> Enable

Yup.

C. Fn III : Operation/Others

Item 4: Release shutter w/o lens

Set this to 1 :Enable

Enjoy!  Let us know what you think of it!

Hi!

I see you already got detailed instructions, how to enable shooting with lenses that have no contacts, manual lenses that is...

thank you, did some searching online and with a bit of patience found the setting.

for anyone else looking for the setting it was in custom functions III and then clicked right a few times to find it.

thank you again

I had this problem with the Kamlan manual lens for my M6 Mark II and made this adjustment so it would allow for the shutter to fire. I leave the setting on when using other lenses. The C.Fn III-4 setting is the on that worked for me
