S5 Pro LCD Backlight behavior question

Hi folks,

I just got an S5 Pro. I also have a D200, which I have had for a while. With the S5 Pro, I noticed that the LCD backlight was on immediately when I turn on the camera, though it will shut off after 30 seconds or so. With the D200, the light bulb position of the power switch toggles the backlight, but this is not the case with the S5 Pro. Pushing the power switch to the lightbulb position will make the backlight come on, but it will never turn it off.

Is this how they all work? Is there a setting in the menus somewhere to change it?

Found it. Illumination setting in Display menu. If On, it's ON. Off behaves like I was expecting.

Good Luck with your new cam. I have been able to get very nice 13x19 prints even though the MP count is low by modern standards.

Thanks.

It's part of my sort-of collection. I like tech that did things in interesting/different ways. And, while even 6MP seems low by today's standards, it can still deliver similar detail to good color negatives. Even my older EOS 1D does quite well with its 4.7MP.

Looking forward to see what sorts of interesting things come out of the Fuji's Super CCD rendering.

You should love the color that comes out of those old CCD sensors.  The change to CMOS brought us better high ISO yet even today's best cameras are just starting to catch up with the stunning look of what the D200 and S5 Pro could produce.  I had a very hard time letting go of my D200.
