Or maybe some RAW converter to DNG to use in my older LR6?

Works ok?

Yep, those will work just fine. And. You can run a free version of Iridient X Transformer (a watermark will populate in the image) to convert only the RAF files to a DNG file. Check it out and if you like it, it is a one-time purchase of US$30 - I think.

I use IXT and my Adobe suite subscription. It works for me and I know you don’t want the monthly so check out the above and see if/how IxT works as well.

Edit: skipped over the CHEAP line item above. It is IxT. And is apparently now US$36.

Many a Fuji shooter loves the free raw therapy program.  In fact, there is a thread here right now about it and the great details you can get out of Fuji raw files.  Just cruise the threads below, you'll see it.

Rawtherapee used to run without lens corrections.

A few years ago RawTherapee did not do lens corrections.

You are in luck!

Fuji users are actually quite lucky from this perspective. Every Fuji X camera comes with two free RAW converters:

  • Fuji SILKYPIX. It's a big sluggish, but the image quality is peerless. Its sharpening and de-noise algorithms are particularly impressive.
  • Capture One Express Fujifilm. Also known as C1. The best user interface and color controls of any RAW converter I've ever seen. Also contains image catalog capabilities similar to Lightroom.

Both RAW converters come from 3rd party companies. Both have a partnership with Fuji. Some people mistakenly claim that SILKYPIX gives you the same result as the in-camera JPEG engine. It's not true, it's an approximation just like C1.

I do not recommend RAW therapee or Darktable. Both feature horrid user experience, steep learning curve and cannot easily deliver Fuji Colors. As an avid Linux user for many years I really, really wanted them to work, but in the end I gave up and installed Windows to run SILKYPIX and C1.

I personally use darktable. For me the biggest consideration is not having to buy some weird proprietary os to run it. Making a noise profile for it for my x-t30 is on my to-do list. using the one for the x-t3 does help.

RawTherapee can use either Lensfun, Adobe LCP, or auto match an embedded jpg profiles. All are optional, and have the ability to toggle individual settings.

There is also a separate defringe function which works very well at removing the purple fringing shown above.

Darktable: you can either turn it off completely or tweak it if you're not happy with the default settings.  DT uses the lensfun database, so assuming your lens is inthere, it will pick it up.

Works ok?

Among the other options mentioned, you can download Adobe's DNG converter and create DNGs to import into older Lightroom versions.

Capture One is the way to go for Fuji files.

For ultimate control (but I found the interface very cumbersome, and unnecessarily complicated) => RawTherapee

I would advise you to avoid any Adobe Products like ACR/Lightroom for any cameras equipped with X-trans sensors.

Cheers,

Max

Yes, RT can be very overwhelming at first. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a large overlap in the functionality of many of the tools. The developers are very keen on not breaking backwards compatibility, so old tools tend to remain. There are also some nuanced differences between that are a function of the different algorithms behind the tools. Some of the tools are also extremely powerful yet very complex.

I have my regular set of tools that I have learned to use, and generally just ignore what I haven't figured out yet.

And I'd advise thats not necessary if you are already a happy Lightroom user.

These are the lens controls - they can be turned off:

Also, there are many great video tutorials on YouTube. A quick search will find them.
