Force Canon t5 to shoot?

Evening!

Is there a way to force my t5 to shoot, regardless of what it's 'thinking,' like I can with my Nikon D5000?  First of all, the Nikon is much better in low light it seems regardless- with a similar lens and settings - and will auto focus and shoot anyway....the Canon, just wont, and I can't force it to like I can the D5000 - I can hit the AF/AE lock button and it will take the photo whenever, wherever, with whatever settings.

I appreciate it!  And I'm excited to be on here learning with everyone else.

Thanks!

Have you tried shooting in Manual?  Which mode are you using at the moment. P usually works fine.

When I'm not playing birds, I'm shooting my accordion....or is it the other way around?

Put it on AI Focus and it'll take a picture any time you full press, regardless of whether it actually focused.
