Would you choose X-T20 + 18-55 over X-T10 + 15-45 + 35/2?

Hi guys, it's a hot topic and I have a pretty hard question regarding Fujifilm cameras, so I hope that someone can inspire me: I'm going to spend about 600 USD for a Fuji set and there are two options for me:

- X-T10 + 15-45 kit + xc 35mm f.2 (once it's available)
or
- X-T20 + 18-55 f/2.8-4

The first set will be like 600 USD and the second one is like 700 USD - What would you choose?

I have heard great reviews regarding 18-55 lens and obviously, I'd like to possess one, but since I got limited resources and those two options - I have a different question - Is 15-45 that bad? My current "versatile" lens is Panasonic 14-42 3,5-5,6 - Do any of you have experience with comparing them?

I also have 28mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.7 vintage lenses which I will surely use, so I expect "help" in manual peaking from the camera and I don't know if X-T20 is going to be a great step forward in that matter.

So, I guess that this problem can be summarized as "old camera body + so-so kit + great prime' versus "better camera body + great kit".

I'm curious about your opinions -
Based on the words above, what would you choose in this situation?

Thank you for your participation in the discussion!

Is this mostly because of the advantages of 18-55 or X-T20?

I would get X-T20 + 18-55. If that extra 100 over your budget get the X-T20 + 15-45 and then you can add 35 f2 later on!

I'd go with option #2. The 18-55 is a really nice general purpose zoom. See samples on Flickr,by typing XF18-55 in the search box. You may be able to add a pre-owned XC35mmf2 later for a little amount of cash if you're interested in that focal length.

X-T20 in a heartbeat. Higher resolution, much better AF system, and much better video specs, touchscreen, Acros, etc. More likely to receive compatibility updates if new lenses require it. The 18-55 is a proven performer, if you get a good copy.

I have heard great reviews regarding 18-55 lens and obviously, I'd like to possess one, but since I got limited resources and those two options - I have a different question - Is 15-45 that bad? Probably not much difference here to speak of. The higher res sensor though may show any optical limitations of the older lenses vs the 16mp sensor in the X-T10.

So, I guess that this problem can be summarized as "old camera body + so-so kit + great prime' versus "better camera body + great kit".

On this note, if you're buying used, then you may want to consider the fact that the X-T10 electronics are two years older as well. You don't know what conditions the camera has been subject to.

For the small price difference, the X-T20 + 18-55 would be my choice.

Both. The T20 is a vastly superior camera and I don't like motorized zooms as well as the absence of an aperture ring.

Xt200 is all new tech and 799 with 15-45.  Comes down to how strict your budget is and what your plans are.  The xt200 packs a lot in.  Minus the xtrans vs bayer, it's close to my xt30 that was twice that price at launch.

Thank you all for inspiration!

I was changing my mind so often - once I wanted to go on budget with X-T1, one day after I wanted to buy Sony A7, even though I was concerned about lack of silent shutter, about its age (2013, yay!), too expensive (for me) lenses, but then - suddenly - a promo for X-T20 popped out on Amazon and I instantly bought it It will be sent to me when they get restock, but I already feel like this is a big step for me (in comparison to GX80) and I'm waiting for XC 35mm F/2 release

First Fuji incoming, so happy about it! If I bought X-T1, I'd be still thinking about X-T20/X-T2 in the back of my head, so now I can clear my mind and focus my thoughts on what's most important - photos

Always the X-T20 - the AF and video are light years ahead of the first gen.

"Scamazon"?  Be absolutely sure you are getting a NEW X-T20 rather than a "return", as they are notorious for this!

X-T20 Face-Eye Detect AF Good & Better than X-T10 If you Shoot People

Don't know how it compares to your m43 cam or if you shoot people much. The 16-24 mpix difference isn't that much unless printed really big. At the Short end the XC15-45 is better than m43 & the XF. W/ it you may notice a significant IQ improvement over m43 unless you got a really good copy of the Pana 14-45.

Actually, if you've learned most of the functions of the GX80, the X-T20 won't be all that big a step up as far as how sophisticated the body is to use.  Certainly it is a different approach to mode dials, but some people may actually find the Fuji approach to be more simple.  I assume you wouldn't worry about a "step up" in sensor or continuous auto focus performance.  Single servo AF on the Panasonic is about as good as you'll find, and my Fuji's certainly don't seem any faster or more accurate in that regard.

The biggest differences between the x-t20 and your GX80 will be in high ISO noise, improved dynamic range and out of camera JPEG colors.  There are plenty of color modes to pic from on the Fuji, but that's just a matter of trying a variety of settings and picking what you like best.  I definitely would not be concerned about it being too big a step.

If you take the time to do a little testing of the film simulations and get the C button's menus set up to your preferences, then the Fuji is quite easy to work with after that.

I'd much rather have the performance improvements of the x-t20 over the x-t10.  That said, if you don't crop much or print large enough to warrant the increase in megapixels and you don't need the AF improvements, then you can certainly get great images out of the x-t10.  I have an x-e2s (16mp sensor) that I enjoy a lot.

The X-T20, by a large margin.

What do you guys have today about the colours on the Fuji? I bought a X-T1 to try it out and at ISO800 and above the colours look a bit wired. Almost like watercolours. Is this common on all the Fuji line up? All the pics were taken inside the house. Now will try outside. But past ISO800 the images are just a bit wired. 1600 is the maximum one can go really. Even between ISO400 and ISO800 the images have a small hint of that watercolours feel.any comments?

Turn noise reduction down to minus 3 or minus 4.

The X-T20 is a great camera - I'm not 100% certain that the X-T20 will offer focus assistance, but I'm sure a quick search will reveal the answer.
I'd think the 18-55 lens would be better all around than the 15-45. I have the 16-55, acknowledged as one of Fuji's best lenses, and the 18-55 has been compared favourably to that lens.
Hope this helps
