M200 - delay to display image taken after shutter operation
1

Hi, it's been some years that I am a regular DPReview reader (forums too), but first time posting

To you that have a EOS M200, do you experience a delay after the shutter operates until the image taken is displayed for review?

This delay doesn't freeze the screen, it's quite strange.

But in any case, it's a great camera. For me it was a worthy upgrade over the M100 (still have it though).

Don't have M200. I've got M100..

Just guessing.. Could be due to small F opening ?

Perhaps a slow SD card ? - you can try to shoot without RAW and set Jpeg to small size to test if it speeds up the delay.

On M100 there is no such delay, that´s why I found it strange.

It happens the same regardless of aperture and if writing raw or not, also my SD card is fast.

Had this irritating problem with the M6

Curious, the M6 should have roughly the same hardware as the M100, yet the M100 doesnt show this behavior.

Size of files? ie 24mp vs 18mp? Lack of brainpower ie digic7 vs 8?

How much of a delay? Also, what settings are you using? Does it happen in full auto mode.

I didnt measure it with a stopwatch, but it seems roughly 1 to 1.5 second. The delay happens regardless of settings or modes.

I compared the m100 and m200 more carefully and noticed that the m100 also has a delay after taking the shot, it's a bit shorter but the main difference is that there is a brief blackout before showing the picture for review. On the m200 there is no such blackout, adding the fact that the delay is a bit longer (lets say 200 to 300ms), it makes the impression that something is off.

Regardless, both have some kind of delay.

Nothing to diminish what a great camera the m200 is (for its size).

Can't wait for the m300 with Digic X

Same here - the M6 definitely has a delay. Not terrible, but I'd sooner do without the delay!

In the film era, I had to wait about two weeks to see an image.

So true

And film advance took around a second anyway so you'd have to wait to be able to take the next shot!

I was thinking of processing, too.

Maybe something like CPU-processing access priority (order)?
