Re: New Insta360 3d camera One R - 1 inch sensor twins

I've been using the insta360 evo mostly for 3d and it absolutely amazing litle (too litle) camera ,yes its for a headset when you use the right app and it can be viwed on side by side app also in 3d and vr180 also but it can also be viwed on a 3d tv a litle squashed , but if you install "stereoscopic player " on your computer and connect it to a 3d tv , you cand do all kind of things with it like zoom in and out of the 180 angle or change the aspect ratio ..and so on, sterecopic player its about $35.00 but immensely useful tool ..o by the way the resolution is great for a camera of thi price an size, the flow state stabilization its incredible , and videos are as sharp as they can be even compared to the the z1 cam pro(3.000.00) ,one video I'm really proud of , strapped on my chest and rode my boulevard m109r 80miles an hour .. and its absolutely incredible.I also own a fujifilm w1 and a w3  and a panasonic 3d1 but they dont conpare to the evo in sharpness and all ,I have also a sony alfa 6500 wich I use for 3d shooting with a beam splitter for non vr180 videos

Thanks for your experience and insight into the EVO. I have it and a few of the other cameras you mentioned. I found the images just too wide for normal 3D work. I prefer the 3D1 actually. Stills are great, but the video is not HD unfortunately.

Re: New Insta360 3d camera One R - 1 inch sensor twins

Hey gang, forum has been quiet for quite a while. I just wanted to share that I have been looking at material shot with the EVO in 2019, finally on a good headset (Oculus Quest, and have not yet tried on Quest 2 which is 50% higher resolution). It is not to compare to a 3D VR rig built with the Zcam, but i was stunned at the experience and quality of the immersive VR180 in 3D. Surprising and beautiful degree of detail, excellent interocular for true to life scale 3D immersion, and comfort on the eyes. With such a small sensor, image will suffer with low light, but in bright sunshine, even evening light, I was quite blown away by dynamic range and detail. As a 3D artist for many years, I can say it is a very affordable camera with great strengths.

However I think 3D VR's introduction to the market has stuttered adoption... quality and affordability of first headsets (and that most originals were tethered and awkward to use), and compromised quality when streamed. So if market share is small, understandable that EVO is not expanded upon. However recent excellent advancements in VR (untethered standalone headsets with excellent quality like Oculus Quest) may make even a smaller market worth while to develop for. I hope so. I recently saw "EcoSphere" on the Oculus Quest, and it is truly beautiful picture and immersion... check out the extraordinary documentary on Indonesian coral reefs. When the package and use becomes this simple, and the quality of content becomes this high, I can only think uptake will be good when people learn of its quality... especially in education. But until that uptake happens, I doubt we will see much development beyond the EVO or expansion of the One R.

I hope to see Insta360 or third parties create tools to join and sync two Insta360 One R (the original Insta360 mod looks like it is bulky, awkward to setup... just syncing two One R's might be more straight forward)... that 1 inch sensor can make a huge difference in different lighting conditions, and allows recording full frame to separate cameras. That would really be sweet. In the meantime, the EVO has an amazingly tiny footprint, and terrific image... and hard to come by.
