Startup noise on K1. Normal???

I have no idea why it took all my edits away. Let me try that again,

I have just bought a K1ii (upgraded) and it makes this 'curr' noise on startup. Not loud but audible. I'm embedding a video. Is this normal? I hope you can hear it over the perpetual rain!

Thanks for any reassurance you can offer!

My K-3II makes the same noise on startup. I do have the dust removal shake on startup selected.

Same noise here on start up. Dodd's Camera, where I made the purchase, said it's the  stabilization mechanism centering the sensor. No way I can dispute or confirm this, but he's the only Pentax guy I've ever encountered in a retail store FWIW.

My camera is set for dust removal on startup and shutdown......no noise on SD.

I was immediately concerned when this first happened, but 5,300 shots later all seems well.....except that noise??? The image stabilization subjectively works fine as well.

It would be good to get a definitive answer on this. Do some K1s not do this?

Indeed, it's not the dust removal (which is ultrasonic on this camera - and the SR-based one makes a completely different noise).

Yes, there is a "start-up noise".

That's what I have always understood too. It could be a myth, but SR is never actually "OFF" if you're working without it , it is 'Inactive' , and there is some transition from however the sensor is parked when powered down to its working position.

Hmmm...but it doesn't occur on APS-C cameras? At least not on kx, kr, k7, k5, k5ii  k30, and ks2.

I hear similar sounds on all my Sony SLT cameras. Never bothered to check what and why. The cause could be similar. Sony has IBIS too.

Just checked the K-1 and the K-5, both make a little sound at startup, but the K-5 noise is a bit "softer". I buy the explanation that it is the sensor moving from "asleep" to "active and ready" position. If I shake my K-5 (gently!) when it's off power I can clearly hear the sensor ratteling inside. In the K-1 it's not that obvious, but I think it's there too. And both cameras work just as they should. Conclusion: not to worry!

It is the sound of aperture motor.

Remove the lens and turn on the camera so you can see the aperture lever moving.

My K-1 and K-5 make same noise but K-50  does not. I think expensive aperture motor (of K-1, K-5 etc) make the noise and cheap aperture motor (of K-30, K-50, etc.) don't make the noise.

@Massao

Didn't you read my message? It does occur on APS-C cameras - specifically the K-3II.

Re: Startup noise on K1. Normal???

My K1 and K3II does the same sound since day 0. I have never worried about it.

Sometimes i also hear a tiny noise to be similar to a capacitor loading.
