Sony rx100iv vs VA

Hi folks,

I have now some small experience of using the Sony RX100 IV with red filter and with the strobe. Time to time a struggle to focus on the eye of the fish when using flexible slot expandable and zooming more then 35mm.

is it better to buy a focus light or can I mitigate with the phase detection focus on the Sony RX100 VA?
any experience?

I used to shoot an RX100 II in a Nauticam housing.   Without the use of a focus light, I had huge problems below 60 feet, or on a cloudy day.  Any camera can benefit from a focus light.   At the time I used a Fishlite V24.   Now I've replaced that with a Kraken 3500.

So you don’t think the phase detection can be the solution

I am currently using the RX100Va. I have used BOTH the Kraken 1000 WSR+ and the 3000 ring light. As of right now I prefer the 1000 as a constant light vs the ring light strobe.

I'm kind of a Kraken fan-boy so I'm also looking at the 3500 WSR+ RGB light as a single light or getting a second 1000 WSR+ for a dual light setup.

I don't have any experience with other cameras underwater.

You could also try hand holding a flashlight to see if you can get better focus.

Yeah I mostly shoot stills. I have been looking at the KR-SO2 as well. Its on my list of items to purchase when I get the ability to get new gear.  I would love to be able to demo it before buying it.
