Pen F does BIF!
13

I think my old Pen F (circa 2016 is old) with M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro + MC-20 captured this raptor quite successfully. Who needs an E-M1X for birds in flight?

More seriously, the beak (my focus point) and head are very sharp. The Pro zoom with MC-20 racked all the way out to 300mm is a very impressive combo.

Edit: Apparently EXIF is stripped (again!):

Pen F, M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro + MC-20, 300mm, f/5.6 (wide open), 1/1000 sec, ISO 200, IBIS style 1 on.

I wonder, if you stopped down to f8 or f11, if the wings/feathers would be sharp too? It's a bit soft there, and certainly not from hand shake or motion blur. 1/1000s seems a bit overkill here. Pretty thin depth of field I guess!

Colors look great.

The feather detail is excellent and the colour rendering of the 40-150 with mc20 looks spot on to me.

Excellent capture and well timed too. Well done!

I dunno, the white balance seems a bit off. I'm no bird expert but I've never seen a raptor with wings that red. Other than that, great shot! I'm sold on the Pen-F now!

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Fun!

Also reminds me to try the MC20-Zoom combo, I've just used it with the 300 so far. If it works well with the 40-150 that opens up a lot of travel possibilities.

Cheers,

Rick

Hey Rick,

I’m still learning the M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro + MC-20; I got the MC-20 from Santa this season. I’m working with it both with my Pen F and my E-M1.2. I get a lot of soft results, but some are critically sharp. That tells me there is a learning curve, but exceptional results are possible. Do I want a 300mm f/4? Probably not for the number of times I might use it successfully in the course of a year. Really, the M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro along with the MC-14 and MC-20 are all what most of us may need, excepting the most dedicated photographers.

Wow. You must have been wearing camouflage to get that close to the bird.
